Photosynthesis Project
Objective: To understand the photosynthesis process in its entirety and
distinguish between light dependent and light independent reactions.
Summary: Create a visual poster comparing and contrasting light dependent and
light independent reactions of photosynthesis.
-Create a two-column visual aid that separates light dependent and light
independent reactants (found on p233)
-Use p 233, p 237 (light dependent reactions), and p. 238 (light independent
reactions) to fill in the processes of each.
-For both reactions, include 3 things:
1) What goes in,
2) What comes out,
3) Where each occurs.

50 points - The Poster - (The picture from page 233 of light dependent and
independent reactions must be recreated in its entirety. For both reactions, include
3 things: 1) What goes in
2) What comes out
3) Where each occurs
Make sure each reaction is labeled clearly on your poster.

50 points – The Paper - Students will answer the following questions on notebook
paper to go with their poster and attach it to the poster. Rewrite the question and
include the answer.
1. Describe the overall process of photosynthesis, including the reactants and
products?
2. What do pigments such as chlorophyll do for photosynthesis?
3. How does light energy fuel chemical reactions during photosynthesis? (Include in
your description: light, electrons, carrier, NADP+, H+, NADPH, chemical reactions)
4. What is the function of NADP+?
5. Where in the chloroplast do light independent reactions take place, what does
the reaction use (3 things), and what is produced (3 things)? Pg 233
6. Where in the chloroplast do light dependent reactions take place, what does the
reaction use (4 things), and what is produced (3 things)? Pg 233
7. What are the similarities and differences between light dependent and light
independent reactions of photosynthesis?
8. What is the relationship between chloroplasts, stroma, thylakoids, and grana?
