Wellspring Church | Worship and Creative Arts Team: Understanding Our Purpose and Expectations
OUR PURPOSE:
All of Wellspring Worship and Creative Arts Ministries exist to:
GLORIFY God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit through music and the arts, to
CONNECT non-believers to the Gospel and ministry of Jesus,
ENCOURAGE spiritual growth in those who believe, and to
SERVE all people through the exemplary leading of worship
In order to aid in the fulfillment of the mission of Wellspring Church, which is to be a soul-saving station through
relationships, Holy Spirit anointing, and the development of the call of God on our lives.
WORSHIP TEAM EXPECTATIONS:
SUPPORT WELLSPRING CHURCH: Team members should actively support the leadership and mission of Wellspring
Church. This includes supporting the life of Wellspring Church through regular attendance at worship services and other
events, as well as giving time, talents, and tithes and offerings outside of the worship team. Attendance at WACA
rehearsal each Wednesday evening, as well as WACA special events and training nights, is required. It is also expected
that you make a sincere effort to be a part of other services, such as United Prayer, special PM services, Men’s/Women’s
Group, etc. Your attendance at such services is important and will be noted.
SET AN EXAMPLE: As members of the worship team, we lead all aspects of our lives in such a way that is an example to
those around us. Following 1 Timothy 4:12, we are to be an example in speech, life, love, faith, and purity. Realize that
no matter how “private” we think our personal life is, it is an example to those around us. Everyone on the team is to
encourage and hold each other accountable.
“Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct,
in love, in faith, and in purity.” – 1 Timothy 4:12 (NIV)
OPEN COMMUNICATION: Communicate honestly and openly with one another following the principles of Matthew 18.
If you have an issue with someone on the team, go to that person and settle it one-on-one. If necessary, if a one-on-one
meeting is not successful, please involve the worship pastor.
“If a fellow believer hurts you, go and tell him—work it out between the two of you. If he listens, you’ve made a friend. If
he won’t listen, take one or two others along so that the presence of witnesses will keep things honest, and try again...”
– Matthew 18:15-17 (MSG)
SKILL LEVEL: Participants must be able to keep up technically with the Worship and Creative Arts Team as a whole and
become a productive addition. Helpful skills to develop include playing/singing by ear, hearing/singing harmonies,
reading music/chord charts, and memorizing music/lyrics as needed.
“Sing a new song of praise to him; play skillfully on the harp, and sing with joy.” – Psalm 33:3 (NLT)
FOSTER A TEACHABLE HEART: Team members should be willing to be corrected and understand that it’s for the best
interests of the individual and the team that we hold each other accountable.
“If you ignore criticism, you will end in poverty and disgrace; if you accept correction, you will be honored.”
– Proverbs 13:18 (NLT)
TRAINING: Team members are expected to actively improve their craft. Paid private lessons are not required, but you
should look for opportunities to grow in your skills. Areas of focus include basic music theory, rhythmic skills, and
playing or singing with other musicians. One-on-one training is always available to you (please contact the worship
pastor).
PERSONAL PRACTICE: Team members are expected to commit time to individual practice to prepare for group
rehearsal and worship services. Recognize that the worship ministry requires a large time commitment and it is wasteful
of the team’s time if some are unprepared for rehearsal.
PERSONAL WORSHIP: Team members need to be spending personal time with God in worship and prayer away from
the platform ministry. We are primarily worshippers, and we cannot lead others where we have not gone ourselves!
REHEARSALS: All team members are required to attend the weekly rehearsal sessions when they are scheduled. If you
are unable to attend rehearsal for any reason, please alert the team leader ASAP. If a team member is absent or
significantly late to practice, it is up to the leader’s discretion as to whether or not they will play for the immediately
following worship service.
PROBATIONARY PERIOD: All new members of the worship team will be subject to a “probationary period,” during which
the individual will attend WACA rehearsals, sound checks, and special events or training nights but will not play/sing
with the team during services. The length of the probationary period is at the worship pastor’s discretion and will be
determined on a case-by-case basis.
STAGE PRESENCE: Our role is to serve the congregation and to enhance the worship service. The worship is not about
us or our music, and our attitude on stage should reflect that. We should always strive to create an atmosphere of
worship and reverence, especially while we are not playing. Understand the significance of body language on stage and
the messages we may not realize we are communicating.
DRESS STANDARD: It is expected that members of the worship team will present themselves at worship in a manner
both glorifying to God and acceptable to the human eye. Ladies and gentleman, dress nice! You don’t need to wear a
suit and tie every Sunday, but perhaps your nicest pair of jeans and a nice dress shirt. If you’re not sure if what you’d
like to wear is appropriate, find something else to wear. Ladies in particular, nothing provocative, please (this includes
skirts and low-cut tops). Also, no flip flops.
PUNCTUALITY: Team members need to be on time to pre-service sound check, mid-week rehearsals, and WACA specials
as scheduled. Team members who continually disregard starting times for rehearsals and meetings will be put on
probation. If it is not possible to make a rehearsal on time, it is your responsibility to notify the worship pastor in
advance. Those who need to set up and tune their instruments are expected to do so before practice so the practice can
start on time.
WEDNESDAY EVENING REHEARSAL:
REHEARSAL CALL TIME: 6:30 PM | VOCAL WARM UP: 6:30 PM | READY-TO-PLAY: 6:45 PM | SOUND CHECK: 7:00 PM
SUNDAY MORNING SOUND CHECK AND RUN THROUGH:
REHEARSAL CALL TIME: 8:45 AM | VOCAL WARM UP: 8:50 AM | SOUND CHECK: 9:00 AM | PRAYER: 10:20 AM
FLEXIBILITY: Team members must be flexible. Things can and will change with a moment’s notice and it is okay! It is
our job to be prepared and ready for anything that could happen and lead in a positive manner through those changes.
CREATIVITY: Each member of the team is encouraged to be creative and to contribute to the team. Don’t be afraid to
suggest, comment, or ask questions about anything we do. However, please be courteous of other team members.
Don’t tell others to do their job while they’re doing it. If you have suggestions, wait until after rehearsal or the worship
service to discuss it with the team leader and/or worship pastor.
RESPECT: The Worship and Creative Arts Team is more than a team, it is a family. We are called to love and honor each
other, encourage each other, and lift each other up. Specifically during rehearsals, please be mindful of how you are
approaching and speaking to your team mates. Respect each other and do the best you can to work with each other in
terms of musicality, sound, instructions, etc. Keep in mind that while suggestions are welcome and requests are made,
the final decision is made by the worship pastor (or team leader for the week) and their decision should be acted on as
such whether you agree or disagree with the decision.
