(basic) The student sometimes correctly solves a polynomial equation. (minimum) The student needs to improve on his/her understanding of solving a polynomial equation. Skill: I can factor polynomials using the Greatest Common Factor and then solve the polynomial by using the zero product property. (advanced) The student shows proficiency and checks to make sure that he/she factored correctly by distributing the GCF and/or checks solutions by substituting the values into the original polynomial. (proficient) The student can correctly factor polynomials using the Greatest Common Factor and then solve the polynomial using the factors. (basic) The student can sometimes correctly factor polynomials using the Greatest Common Factor and/or solve the polynomial using the factors. (proficient) The student can correctly factor trinomials into the product of two binomials. (basic) The student can sometimes correctly factor trinomials into the product of two binomials. (minimal) The student needs to improve on correctly factoring trinomials into the product of two binomials. Skill: I can factor polynomials completely. (advanced) The student shows proficiency and extends his/her understanding by checking that he/she gets the original polynomial by using the distributive property to multiply the binomials. (proficient) The student can correctly factor a polynomial completely. (basic) The student sometimes can correctly factor the polynomial completely, including the process of factoring by grouping. (minimal) The student needs to improve his/her understanding of factoring polynomials completely, which includes factoring by grouping.
