Project: Compounds and Bonds, Part 3

Project: Compounds and Bonds, Part 3
Directions: For this assignment you will create lists to compare and
contrast properties of ionic and covalent bond like that used in a Venn
diagram. In the appropriate list or lists, you will need to include the
following information:






Explain the difference between an ionic and a covalent bond by describing
how and under what conditions each is formed.
Give an example of two elements that would combine to form an ionic
bond.
Give an example of two elements that would combine to form a covalent
bond.
Explain how the properties of ionic and covalent bonds vary.
List and explain any similarities between ionic and covalent bonds.
In a separate list, define organic compounds and whether they should be
classified as ionic or covalent compounds. Explain why organic
compounds are important to your life.
Ionic Bond:
1. Describe how and under what conditions ionic bonds are formed.
2. Give an example of two elements that would combine to form an ionic
bond.
3. Describe the properties of an ionic bond.
Covalent Bond:
1. Describe how and under what conditions covalent bonds are formed.
2. Give an example of two elements that would combine to form a covalent
bond.
3. Describe the properties of a covalent bond.
Properties Shared by Ionic and Covalent Bonds:
1. Describe and explain any similarities between ionic and covalent bonds.
Organic compounds:
1. Define organic compounds.
2. Explain why organic compounds are important in your life.
