Welcome to the Guppies group! Session two at camp has been awesome! My name is Carolyn Sumcizk and
I am the head counselor. Steph and Kiersten are the other counselors in the group. During the first week of session two we had so much fun dressing up as our favorite Disney characters and cow girls or cow boys. We ended the week with a whole camp game of Simon Sez that all the campers loved. Each camper found out what team they would be on for Camp Olympics by finding their name on a color piece of paper in the library. Our favorite week of camp was Camp Olympics where each day of the week the campers earned points for their team through various different activities and showed great camp spirit by wearing their team color for the whole week. Our group had so much fun participating in the alphabet and counselor scavenger hunt that earned points for their team. Our group did a great job during the cheer competition of Camp Olympics where each color team did a cheer in front of the entire camp.
This Wednesday, 8/5 at 10am at Manorhaven School is the camp summer show. Our group has been working hard these past few weeks on our song for the show and it is a performance you will not want to miss! We would like you to dress your child in a black shirt and black shorts or skirt for the camp show.
In art each day we made projects that allowed them to be creative as learning how to use various different types of art supplies. In music we are practicing our camp summer show song, playing with drums and learning fun, silly songs that incorporate movement. In dance we are working on our camp summer show song. In sports we play games that teach the campers about working and playing as a team as well as time for individual exploration of different sporting equipment. In drama, the campers get to use their imagination to put on a Disney play and take turns playing the different parts. In science, the campers participate in a variety of hands-on science experiments. Each day our group has so much fun playing water games and going on the playground. Our group has had so much fun at Port Day Camp this summer!!!!

For the past couple of weeks the Anchors have been enjoying every minute of camp. We are either playing games in the gym or acting on stage. This group has not stopped! Recently we are finishing up Color War! The entire camp was split up into four different colors, red, white, blue, and green, and so were the Anchors. No matter what team they were on they still had fun! For Color War, the teams competed in different types of events. They competed in scooter races in the gym, a pie eating contest in chief shop, a massive counselor hunt and a scavenger hunt. For six days the Anchors were working on their teams’ cheer and dance and they all did amazing!!! No matter what place they come in they are doing their best no matter what!
Besides Color War we have continued with our other activities. We have made planted beans in plastic bags and watched our plants grow in Science! We have continued singing many songs in Music such as “Let it Go”. Also, during dance we have been busy working on our talent show song. The Anchors cannot wait for their family and friends to see their amazing dance moves. They all have been working very hard and cannot wait to share their talent with everyone. During Drama we acted out everyone’s favorite Mary Poppins where we saw some very talented friends act. I have a feeling that we have some future actors and actresses in our group.
Now that we have just about ended our amazing six weeks it is time to say “So long” but not
“Good-bye”. These future kindergarteners are ready to start school come September. They all have come along these past six weeks and I am sure that they will do great no matter which school they go too. On behave of the entire Anchor’s team at Port Day Camp we are honored to have worked with your children and look forward to seeing them next year! Hello Sea Turtle Parents! It’s hard to believe we only have a few short days left here at Port Day Camp! Our past few weeks have been quite busy and we can’t wait to tell you all about it!
In Science we have done some awesome experiments! We have shrunk down chip bags in the microwave, made volcanoes and gak, and now we are growing bean sprouts! In Art, Domingo has taught us about abstract drawing, and taught us how to draw different animals such as cows and dinosaurs. In Drama we have been acting out the show Mary Poppins. The children have loved taking on the various roles of each character.
This past week the campers have been competing in Color Olympics, the most exciting week ever at Port Day Camp! During this amazing week, the entire camp is split into four colors: Green Army, White Lightning, Red Racers and Blue
Flame. The four teams compete against each other in various activities such as: scavenger hunts, team bowling, pie eating contests, relay races, and team cheer!
The final activity of Color Olympics will take place on Monday with a competitive event of Tug-o-War. We have had such a blast with our friends this summer!
We are sad that next week marks our final week together but we have some exciting events to close out the summer:
Tuesday – Camp Carnival
Wednesday – Twin Day AND Talent Show at 10 am.
**Please wear black shorts and a plain red shirt for the show – Send in twin day clothes in backpack**
Thursday – Pajama Day
Friday – Last Day of Camp 
We have had such a wonderful summer with your children and hope we made memories to last them a lifetime! Have a wonderful school year and we can’t wait to see you back next summer! 

To the Parents/Guardians of our Krabby Patty Campers,
Wow, these past few weeks sure did go by fast! We can’t believe it is almost time to say goodbye to Summer 2015, can you? So much has happened since our last newsletter. As you all know, Monday will wrap up Color War, which was filled with fun events and activities. We all had a blast so we consider each one of ourselves winners, regardless of what team actually wins =). The Krabby Patty children were real troopers and participated and fought for their teams to win. We have also had some large camp assemblys that have been a ton of fun as well. We had a fun morning of Simon Sez and Jester Jim had us laughing quite hard with his jugling acts and jokes.
As a group, we have learned so much from one another. We made some new friends, kept the old, but most importantly we bonded as a group and made memories that will never be forgotten. We want to specially thank all of our specialists for making this summer an amazing one. We are really going to miss doing Disney acts with
Chris, learning new and fun songs with Jason, making our delicious, yummy treats with Brian and Jamie, taking swim lessons with Jenny, Annie, and Darby, doing such fun experiments with Luke, dancing around and doing Zumba with Meghan and Lexi, making really cool arts and crafts with Domingo and Harry, and always playing fun games and running around with Ang, Danielle, and Alex. If it wasn’t for all them, this summer wouldn’t have been the same.
It was a pleasure being the counselor of your child/children, we hope they had a blast. We wish them the best of luck on this upcoming school year and we are looking forward to seeing you next summer!

It is also a theme day which is twin day so if your child wants to participate and dress similar to a friend, please pack a change of clothes in their backpack!

Dear Manatee Parents or Guardians,
It seems like it was just yesterday that we were meeting each other for the first time and playing ice breaker games to get know each other. Fast forward six weeks later and we will be saying goodbye soon. I know that it’s so hard to say goodbye to yesterday but trust me, it will be ok. But before we say goodbye, let us review some of the amazing events that took place here at
Port Day Camp during our ridiculously awesome second session!
Our second session started off with the Manatees adding some new campers to our already amazing group! Needless to say, we welcomed them in with open fins! We shined up our boots and dusted off our hats for Wild West day. We also played a gigantic game of Simon Says, which was extremely entertaining and we had such a blast trying to keep up.
This past week, we competed in the grand daddy of them all, Color War. Color War was a week filled with fun, fierce competition between the Red Racers, White Lightning, Green
Army and the Blue Flame. It was a back and forth battle the entire week as we competed in The
Brain Show Challenge, a scavenger hunt, a team cheer performance, scooter hockey, European
Handball, a pie eating contest, a Mona Lisa picture puzzle, Music Jeopardy and our very own version of Chopped! It has been an amazing week filled with fun, laughter, excitement and great sportsmanship and even though White Lightning has the lead going into the final day, it is still any team’s championship to win!
Sitting here typing this, we are truly amazed at how many activities and experiences that
Port Day Camp has given the campers and counselors this summer. It really has been a pleasure working with the Manatee campers and we have had so much between the pool, water games, and laughs at lunch that we will miss all of you very much! Enjoy the rest of your summer and we hope to see you all right back here at Port Day Camp next year!
Sadly, this Tuesday we must say goodbye to Megan as she is going to back to school. She has down a wonderful job this summer and has meant so much to so many. We will miss having
Megan with us during the final days of camp. Best of luck Megan!

Dear Families,
Camp has been great! We can’t believe it all ends next week. We have had some exciting last few weeks, including our first time paddle boarding and color war! We are on different teams and it makes for some fun competition in our room!
At the pool, we had relay races with our color teams. We all did a great job swimming fast and cheering on our friends. When we weren’t racing, we were swimming with our friends from the Clownfish. At paddle boarding, we all had a lot of fun paddling out until the wind picked up. We had to use our muscles to paddle back to shore! At sailing, many of us have gotten to go out in the opti-boats and learn to steer a sailboat. The rest of us like to jump in the bay.
In cooking, we have made some yummy stuff! Brian had us make his famous chocolate chip cookies and empanadas. For color war, we had to go face first into a pile of whipped cream and find a Swedish fish. Counselors did it too and it was very funny to watch!
In Science, Luke showed us how to make chip bags shrink in the microwave. He also had us make paper airplanes and fly them down the hallway to see which team got the farthest!
Ang taught us how to play gaga ball in sports, which has been one of our favorite games at camp so far. We are all doing a great job at soccer this week!
Meghan and Lexi are helping us with our talent show dance moves. We can’t wait to show all of you next week!
In art, Domingo and Harry had us put together a giant Mona Lisa puzzle for color war! It was a lot harder than it looked but we all worked together to get it done!
Only one more week left! See you at the talent show!

Hello Parents, Families, and Friends of The Mermaids,
Wow, this summer has gone by so fast! We cannot believe
it is almost over. The Mermaids have had a very active summer.
It has been such a fantastic experience working with these kids.
From dance to science to pool, we have had a great time getting to
know all of the Mermaids and seeing them grow. We are so lucky to
have had such an amazing group of girls!
This past week, the Mermaids have been passionately participating in the Color Olympics. It has been awesome seeing the girls competing and showing great sportsmanship across all events. The girls worked so hard throughout every activity! Every specialist had a different challenge for the teams to overcome. There were relay races, swimming races, scavenger hunts, dance competitions, cooking contests, and lots of sports. All of the teams have worked so hard and we are all so excited to hear who will win on Monday.
The girls have also been working hard on their talent show routine.
Oh Mamma Mia, it is going to be AWESOME! The Mermaids have been working hard throughout drama and dance to perfect the number. We hope to see you there on Thursday, August 6 th !

After a very successful and fun first session, the Gnarly Surfers were eagerly awaiting the arrival of session 2 at Port Day Camp. The very specific event we were looking forward to was the biggest event that most camps usually have in store for their campers and staff. That event is color war.
The Breakout
Being part of other camp's color war breakouts, I was very interested in how this camp would go about doing theirs. Needless to say, both myself and campers loved it. While the other breakouts I experienced were more of a show for others to perform, and the majority to watch. The process of Port
Day Camp’s color war breakout incorporated the best of both worlds. Giving both the counselors and campers a fun activity, we had to race to find our team on the playground. The first team to have all of their members sitting with their name gained points before color war even began. Then, during the last period of the day, all of the teams were introduced to their captains. This really brought out the spirit which leads me to my next point.
The Spirit
The one thing that will always be amazing for me to see is the spirit and enthusiasm that color brings out of campers and counselors alike. Just by simply walking down the hallway you can hear endless chants of “lets go white!”. It truly is an infectious experience. Children whose group I am not even a part of will see my green shirt and accessories and immediately reach out for a high five while screaming “go green!” as I walk through the camp grounds. The campers never fail to impress either. The
Gnarly Surfers are a very spirited group and love dressing up. They came to camp with giant green glasses, red mustaches, blue bandanas and face paint, and white head bands. The campers have been working really hard on their cheers and skits and will have a chance to perform on Friday morning. Camp spirit is truly a beautiful thing!
The Games
Our favorite part of color war of course is the activities. We specifically enjoy seeing how every special we go to gets transformed into a color war activity. Sports remained mostly unchanged. The
Gnarly Surfers and Mermaids were broken up into their color war teams and competed against each other in an incredibly fun game of four-way capture the flag and a series of relay races. We also participated in team handball, scooter hockey and a game of Toxic River. In Toxic River the teams had to figure out a way to get across the blacktop with touching the ground (the toxic river). They could use a ball, a base, a scooter and a jump rope to get across.
Science became a paper airplane competition that the surfers really got into. All of the boys were working to make sure their plane could fly the furthest and really showed off their knowledge of how aerodynamics work. Arts & Crafts was transformed into an insanely difficult puzzle completion competition that challenged the minds of everyone involved including the counselors. Domingo recreated famous painting like the Mona Lisa and then cut it up and the teams had to reassemble it. Chef shop became an eating competition where the boys and counselors had to be the first to find two Swedish fish in a pile of whipped cream. Later today we will be competeing in a camp version of the show Chopped.
We will be given ingredients and have to create an entrée and a dessert. Last, but not least, was my favorite game of color war so far. It was the first time that Port Day Camp incorporated a humanized form of Hungry Hungry Hippos. The counselors were put to the test with strategy and quickness and it made for an intense and fun activity that I'm sure the kids will never forget!
Even though camp is almost over we still have a lot to look forward to. Monday will participate in tug of war, Tuesday is carnival day and Thursday is the end of summer camp show. The Gnarly Surfers will be performing a Seize the Day from Newsies. We had a great time this summer getting to know your campers. We hope that they enjoyed their time at Port Day Camp and we hope to see them again next summer.
