1.1 Background of Study
Today, many people do not know how to recycle their garbage because they are unfamiliar with
their recycling procedures and garbage pick-up times. Recycling has been more prevalent in
communities where funding was put toward raising community awareness about the specifications
of the recycling campaign.
Other problem is about using a Plastic bag; Plastic bags are the cause of main environmental
concerns. Statistics display that we are consuming more plastics bags every single year. It is
approximated that an average individual uses concerning 130 plastic bags each year.
Most of them go straight to our landfill and an extremely less percentage of plastic bags are truly
recycled. A reduction in our usage of plastic bags is vital in resolving the environmental setbacks
stemming from them. The most relevant method to reduce the number of plastic bags in the nature
is to reduce our consumption. As customers, we cannot pause for our powers to tackle the setback
of plastic bags. Change in the end comes from everyone be it from to regulation limits of our power
or from our own volition. Moreover, the most vital contribution to such a crusade has to come from
the consumer.
1.2 Statement of Problem
The plastic bags are too easily to get. It gets discarded facilely and its persistence in the nature
can do outstanding harm. Urbanization has added to the plastic contamination in pondered form in
cities. Plastic thrown on earth can go in into drainage lines and chokes them emerging into floods. In
the Oceans the plastic bag pollution are keep increasing, 90 percent of discovered on the marine
beaches encompassed plastics. In other case many wild marine life being attacking from the
pollution of plastic bags, a lot of marine life are dead and increasing extinction.
In Bayan Lepas, Avery Conner of roads, park and local house will have in proper garbage
disposal. Community around do not care regarding their environment, their just throwing and leave
a way their garbage as easier there wanted. These attitudes will damage our landfill and the
environment.
Many campaigns are being created not just supported from the private sector also from the
government to prevent this problem to save our world. Attitude from our people self do not care
about it, and still casualness to their land.
1.3 Objective of the Study
The points of this project are:
 To identify the cases of unsuccessful proper disposal
 To identify risk factor of landfill pollution
 To identify effects of landfill pollution
 To recommend solutions to the problem of recycling garbage disposal
1.4 Research Questions
This research will undertake to answer these questions during completion:
a) What are the risk factors of improper to dispose garbage?
b) What is the possibility of cycling campaigns to help saving world?
c) What is the best solution to prevent Pollution on landfill?
1.5 Significance of Study
By recycling, the recyclable items can end up being reused into new containers, reducing
greenhouse gases and saving landfills our landfill environment. According to Julie (2011); the
National Geographic website explains that making changes to our lifestyle helps put money in our
pockets and reduces pollution that can deteriorate the earth's ozone layer. By not using plastic bag,
it helps in saving a lot of space that usually gets wasted while making landfills for waste. Also, it can
conserve natural resources for our future generations. This will bring a good environment and
healthy living for the people in Bayan Lepas.
1.6 Scope of the Study
This study is designed to provide information on environmental issue specifically in waste
disposal, usage of plastic bag and the importance of recycling. According to Boehlke (2010), the
Green Student U website states that most people produce up to five pounds of trash per day, which
can easily add up to around 50 tons of trash per year. According to the statistics from Majlis
Perbandaran Pulau Pinang (MPPP) (2010), there are 32 recycling companies in Penang but most of
the people are not aware of the companies. These researches will help to inform the public on the
existing of these companies and reduce the problems of waste disposal. The findings of this study
will be gathered from questionnaire and observation throughout Bayan Lepas area, which includes respondents in the age of 18-40 in the restaurants, neighborhoods and schools area. The results
from the survey will be collected from the people in the survey area.
