1 Friends of King’s Annual General Meeting Held on Monday, 14th September 2015 at 7:30 pm Alan Cooper Library The King’s School in Macclesfield Members Present: Mel Toms, Frances Naismith, Dr Simon Hyde, Rachel Collett, Toni Watkins, Charlotte Rous Sarah Holliday, Apologies: Caroline Johnson, Judith Provis Welcome and Introductions: Mel welcomed everyone to the meeting. Minutes of Last Meeting: The minutes from last year’s Annual General Meeting which was held on 6th October 2014 were approved by the committee. Chairman’s Report: It’s been yet another busy year for both FOK and FOKIJ. Toni saw her time out as Chair of FOKIJ in style, with a very successful Summer Fun Friday. I’d just like to say a big thank you to Toni, on behalf of both committees, for the years of time and effort she’s put into the Infant & Junior school. Rachel Clark has stepped up to take on the role and we wish her luck and support. I’d like to thank both committees for all the effort everyone puts in to bring together some great events and to all the teachers and support staff for the help they give us, especially Peter Jackson and his Estates team. As usual we’ve had a great selection of funding requests from all divisions of the school and we finally made progress with the improvement of the 6th form outdoor seating area. Mrs Roberts made it clear that she wanted to minimise the amount of maintenance needed for the area so no landscaping was carried out. Peter’s team did a thorough job cleaning the patio area, tidying up any useable benches and purchasing new benches. I have spoken to the Art Department about producing a piece of artwork, produced by the 6th Form art students and they started work on this before the exams. Thanks to Caroline Johnson for coordinating the funding requests. In October a few committee members manned the advertising boards at the Open Day event again, should any prospective parents have any questions for us. During the year Elizabeth stepped down from managing the 2nd Hand Uniform so a big thank you to her for all the effort she’s put in ensuring that only suitable uniform is sold, holding regular sales and bringing in a lot of money. Toni and I have taken this on and have just about managed to keep our new store room tidy!! We’re having our next tidy up on Thursday 17th September and will publish the next sale dates soon after. As usual all non-branded uniform and clothes can go in the next clothing recycling in November, date to be confirmed tonight. November was a very busy month which started with ‘An Evening with Kate RichardsonWalsh’ on Thursday 13th. This was a motivational sports presentation given by the UK and England hockey captain. We opened the event up to external schools and clubs and all the feedback was that it was a fantastic evening. We held a raffle, selling items signed by Kate and held a Q&A session at the end. Kate also spent a lot of time signing autographs and having pictures taken. 2 We worked with 6th Form to raise the profile of the clothing collection and promised the proceeds of the collection to them for their outdoor project. It was an extremely successful collection but W H Tracey went into receivership the day they collected so timing wise we were extremely unlucky and have received no communication from them since. The Christmas Fair, also in November, was another great success and I need to say a massive thank you to everyone who took on the management of a stall or helped on the day. There was no Party Night this year but a few members of FOKIJ are planning one this Autumn on Friday 20th November at Mottram Hall again. In March we held the second “King’s Has Talent” show which was enjoyed by all again. A big thank you must go again to Donald Forbes, Alex Moore, Abbie Richardson and the rest of the 6th Form committee who did a fantastic job of encouraging pupils to audition, holding the auditions and selecting the acts for the live final. Thanks again also to Mr Street for compering the evening and Donald Forbes, Catherine Thompson, Helen Broadley and Rachael Burrows for being enthusiastic judges. In my personal opinion the variety of the acts need to be a bit more varied and I don’t feel another Talent Show should be held for a few years. We worked with the Year 11 External Relations Prefects, Sameera Lyons and Freddie Hayward, to canvas opinion on ways FOK could help bring a few changes to the Year 11 Prom. It was too late to do anything about the venue but we did fund the Photo Booth again and arranged for a professional photographer to be present and take photos throughout the evening which were then uploaded onto a gallery for purchase. Thanks to Sameera and Freddie for attending meetings and good luck in your future studies. Frances to continue as treasurer also for one more year. Sarah to remain as secretary. Any other business Dr Hyde extended his thanks on behalf of the school for all the hard work over the last twelve months. Dr Hyde mentioned that the school are purchasing two digital lecterns, one for each hall. He asked if we would fund one and stated that the former students association have agreed to fund the other. Dr Hyde to ask Caroline to add this to the funding request list. We talked about the new pavilion which has been built by the astro and asked Dr Hyde if we could put up promotional literature. Mel spoke to Steve Moores a few days ago to suggest that if he had any funding requests to help kit out the pavilion that he should submit them via Caroline. The selling sports equipment and musical instruments possibly via parent portal or the FOK website was briefly discussed. Mel and Toni to look into this further. 13 November 2015 – Clothes recycling. 20 November 2015 – FOK party night organised by FOKIJ parents. Mel to discuss the 6th form Outdoor area mosaic with Dr Cocker and to check if the planters have been painted. 4 28th November 2015 – Christmas Fair – Sarah to talk to Ian Crawford about the choir being at the Christmas Fair from 1.30 – 2.30. Rachel chasing a number of new stall opportunities. Quite a few of the craft stalls are not coming this year. Rachel to send out an email to parents to suggest they might like a stall if they have their own businesses. Mel to email FOK people regarding manning the stalls. Year 11 Prom – we will probably continue to fund the photo booth, but this can be discussed nearer the time. We not going to buy Kingsley Bears to sell at the Christmas Fair. Charlotte suggested that FOK look into subsidising the Duke of Edinburgh cookery course being offered up by school. The problem with this is that this isn’t a school’s cost but a parent’s cost so it’s not something FOK can get involved with. Rachel to go to the bank to become one of the signatories for FOK. Mel and Toni to establish dates for second hand uniform sales and possibly set tables outside the FOK room for people to look through things more easily. Toni to obtain current uniform photos from Caroline. Toni to email Frances with the second hand uniform profits from Summer Fun Friday. Elizabeth mentioned the idea of a sports evening, Elizabeth to explain the idea at the next meeting. Please can people let Mel know if they’re able to help out on the FOK stand at the open days on 10th October. A possible future event could be along an Antique Road Show theme, Toni to find out more information from Rachel Clark. Action from the meeting Action Point Who to follow up Digital lectern to be added to the funding proposal list. Dr Hyde/Caroline Use the pavilion to display publicity literature for FOK. Speak to Steve Moores about any funding requests to help kit out the watching area. Mel / Caroline Sale of sports equipment and musical instrument to be thought through. Mel & Toni Speak to Dr Cocker about the 6th form outdoor area mosaic Mel Confirm with Ian Crawford that he’s still ok to organize a 6th Form Choir at the Christmas Fair. Sarah Email alert to parents suggesting that any with their own business who may want a stall at the Christmas Fair get in touch with Rachel.
