NEWSLETTER #1 | OCTOBER 2014
Brisbane City Council is planning to build a new aquatic centre in the Parkinson Ward. Council recently appointed BlueFit Leisure to build and operate the new aquatic centre at Parkinson.
Council is excited to be working in partnership with BlueFit Leisure to create a contemporary aquatic centre with facilities for fun and fitness for the whole community
The proposed facilities are shown on the next page and include:
• a heated 50 metre eight-lane outdoor pool with accessible ramp
• a heated 25 metre indoor pool with accessible ramp
• a kiosk
• change rooms with showers and toilets
• a car park.
There will also be space for a future aquatic playground. When complete the new aquatic centre will be open all year round and will offer facilities for patrons to swim laps, join a class, squad or enrol in swimming lessons.
In March 2013, Council announced 751 Algester Road, Parkinson as the preferred location for the new aquatic centre. The land has an Open Space classification. Given this, the proposal to locate a new community use building (aquatic centre) on this land is subject to a development application which will be lodged later this year. Information including plans for the new aquatic centre will be provided on Council’s website for the public to view.
As part of the aquatic centre development, Council will construct a new intersection to provide access to the aquatic centre. The intersection will include a right turning lane from Algester Road. A bus drop-off zone will also be constructed at the front of the aquatic centre.
