PROGRAM ASSESSMENT PLAN for BA in ML&C
2011 - 2012
7 members: one chair, & one faculty member per assessment

Assessment #1 (OPI):
Regular coordination duties:
 Become familiar with the OPI
o Program requirements & syllabus description
o Which SSLOs does it address?
o Test administration procedures
o Structure of test, proficiency levels, advice for students
o 4499 instructors & data collection plan
 Be the point of contact for OPI information
 Work with Jan Carter to send reminders & collect/record data
 Submit raw and aggregated data to committee chair for fall & spring
 Present data analysis to committee & make recommendations for program improvement
 Keep committee chair updated
2011/2012:
 Follow-up with lower level coordinators about STAMP administration in 2002 course &
data collection
 Any initiatives regarding oral proficiency assessment & training
 Organize OPI workshops for students?
Assessment #2 (Senior Seminar Research):
Regular coordination duties:
 Become familiar with the assessment:
o Origin, purpose, structure, project requirements
o Which SSLOs does it address?
o Administration & data collection
o Program assessment instrument vs. presentation rubric
 Be the point of contact for senior seminar assessment information
 Work with Jan Carter to send reminders & collect/record data
 Make sure FLED Coordinator gets individual FLED student data on time
 Submit raw and aggregated data to committee chair for fall & spring
 Present data analysis to committee & make recommendations for program improvement
 Keep committee chair updated
2011/2012:
 Assist German program with implementation of assessment

Assessment #3 (Linguistics Project):
Regular coordination duties:
 Become familiar with the assessment
o Project descriptions for Spanish, French, & German
o Which SSLOs does it address?
o 4456 instructors & data collection plan
 Work with Jan Carter to send reminders & collect/record data
 Submit raw and aggregated data to committee chair at the end of the appropriate semester
 Present data analysis to committee & make recommendations for program improvement
 Keep committee chair updated
2011/2012:
 Work with 4456 instructors to develop common rubrics for Spanish, French, & German
Assessment #4 (3303 exams):
Regular coordination duties:
 Determine data collection schedule
o What languages? What sections? What semesters?
 Work with Jan Carter to send reminders & collect/record data
 Submit raw and aggregated data to committee chair at the end of semester
 Present data analysis to committee & make recommendations for program improvement
 Keep committee chair updated
2011/2012:
 As per DFL decision in Spring 2011, change assessment to focus on Metalinguistics to
assess students’ knowledge of terminology (addressing SSLA 1b: Understanding
Linguistics)—What understanding as a result of “completing” the program?
o Work with 3303 instructors & get input from other colleagues
o Pilot new assessment (does not have to be for a grade!!)
o Review articulation plan for 3200, 3302, & 3303)
Assessment #5 (Immersion Experience Reflection):
Regular coordination duties:
 Become familiar with assessments for Internship
o Common assessments across languages and sections
o One comprehensive assessment for every student
 Work with Jaime Cruz Ortiz to establish data collection procedures & schedule
 Work with Jan Carter to send reminders & collect/record data
 Submit raw and aggregated data to committee chair at the end of semester
 Keep electronic samples of student work & request permission to share for committee
discussion & program improvement
 Present data analysis to committee & make recommendations for program improvement
 Keep committee chair updated
2011/2012:
 Coordinate assessment & data collection across all three major languages
 Work with supervisors/coordinator to develop rubric and/or criteria for assessment

 Become familiar with the survey
o Structure & administration

 Submit raw and aggregated data to committee chair
 Present data analysis to committee & make recommendations for program improvement
 Keep committee chair updated
2011/2012:
 Work with Sabine Smith to integrate new ICC SSLOs
