Module Aims: To introduce 1st Arts students, to include Philosophy students, and
those studying part-time in the evening degree course, to a selection of views about
what philosophy is from the ancient, medieval and modern periods. This will provide
students with an understanding of the variety of ways in which philosophy has been
defined and more specifically, for those who study for the degree in Theology and
Philosophy, will serve as a useful background for situating philosophical developments
which are examined in other sections of philosophical thought.
