Meat Goat and Heifer Youth Shows

Rules and Regulations
Heifer check-in will be from 8:30 am to 9:15 am. The heifer show will begin at 9:30 am.
Goat weigh-in will begin at 10 am and end at 11:30 am. The goat show will begin immediately following
the heifer show, but not before 11:30 am.
Food and drinks will be available for purchase during the show.
Tie-outs will be available; there will be NO tying to the sides of the arena.
Restrooms are located on-site.
1. The shows are open to all 4-H members who are at least 5 years old and have not reached their
18th birthday by January 1, 2013.
2. Each exhibitor is limited to 2 animals per species. If an exhibitor has more than one animal in a
class, the other animal may be shown by another exhibitor entered in the show.
3. Exhibitors will automatically be entered into their showmanship classes. There will be four
divisions: Cloverbud, Junior, Intermediate, and Senior.
4. An official health certificate signed by an accredited veterinarian, or an approved state employed
vet, must accompany heifers and goats. Animals showing signs of illness on the day of the show
will not be allowed to participate and will not be allowed to remain on the grounds.
5. All goats must have a USDA scrapie tag in place.
6. Heifers must be born between September 1, 2011 and April 30, 2013 to participate.
7. Heifers must be halter broken. Unruly animals that potentially endanger the safety of exhibitors or
officials will be excused from the arena.
8. There are no washing facilities available at Travis Farms, water will be available but not for
washing animals. If your animals need extra shade plan to bring a means (pop-up tent, umbrella,
etc.) to provide that.
9. Heifers will be divided by breed into the following classes: Continental, British, Brahman/Brahman
Derivatives, and Commercial. Within classes, heifers will be further divided by age at the
discretion of the show officials. Number of classes will depend on number of animals entered in
the show. No steers will be allowed in heifer classes or showmanship classes.
10. Goat show is open to meat goats only. No dairy or pygmy breeds.
11. Wether classes will be divided by weight at the discretion of the show officials. Number of classes
will depend on number of goats entered.
12. Doe classes will be determined by age: does born on or before September 15, 2012, does born
September 16, 2012 – December 22, 2012, does born December 22, 2012 to March 31, 2013,
and does born on or after April 1, 2013.
13. Show officials reserve the right to arrange classes as needed.
14. Changes to entries must be made prior to the day of the show. No substitutions of animals or
competitors will be allowed at the show without prior approval.
15. All decisions by the judge are final. All competitors cannot win, therefore the judge’s decision,
whatever it may be, should be accepted in the true spirit of sportsmanship and 4-H. When an
exhibitor is guilty of unsportsmanlike conduct, the show management may suspend such
exhibitor’s right to participate in future classes and/or shows for a period as deemed appropriate.
An exhibitor’s parent or leader can and will be barred from show grounds for unsportsmanlike
conduct or improper behavior.

Coming from Hwy 15/501, once you turn on Hwy 73 Travis Farm is about 1/5 mile on the right. Look for
the 4-H signs.
If traveling east on Hwy 73, Travis Farm is about 7 miles past the Hwy 211 junction in West End. The
farm will be on the left. Look for the 4-H signs.
