Standard Specification for Plastic Tarpaulins
Weight: 200 g/m2 ± 5% (ISO 3801). Add 10% for reinforcement. Lighter versions that meet the material performance specifications below
might also be considered.
Size: 4m x 6m
Core material: woven fabric High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE). Black color, as this provides privacy, reduces heating under the sheeting due to
the sun and is the cheapest way to reduce UV degradation.
Lamination material: Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE). This should be white in color on at least one side since white reflects heat better in hot
climates.
Reinforcement: eyelets (sheets only) or reinforcement bands (rolls and sheets).
• Option 1: eyelets (on edges), one strong aluminum eyelet every 1.00 m ± 5% on edges. Sealed on all sides (or 2 sides heat sealed and two
sides double stitched), with nylon or HDPE ropes in hem.
• Option 2: reinforcement bands, 6 grey bands of 7.5 cm width made from black woven HDPE laminated on both sides.
Tensile strength: outside of reinforcement bands, minimum 500 N (ISO 1421) or minimum 600 N (BS 2576 50 mm grab test, US equivalent test
ASTM D751). For reinforced tarpaulin only: inside of reinforcement bands, Minimum 700 N (ISO1421).

Tear strength outside of reinforcement bands: minimum 100 N (under ISO 1421 or BS 4303 wing tear).
Bursting strength: not necessarily specified, 200 N/cm2 (BS 4768).
Welding: maximum 1 welding along the middle. (This means that sheets or rolls are made from two panels). Minimum 80% of the original
tarpaulin strength in the weft.
UV resistance: maximum 5% loss on original tarpaulin tensile strength (ISO 1421) after a minimum of 1500 hours UV under ASTM G53/94 (UVB
313 nm peak).
Family Tent General Specification:
The family tent should have 16.00 m2 main floor area plus two 3.5 m2 vestibules for a total area of 23.00 m2, double fold and includes a ground
sheet.
Tent gross weight per unit should be approx. 55.0 kg,
Packing: One tent with all accessories can be packed in to a master bundle, the metal poles and metal pegs will be packed in to 2 separate bags.

One partition running from either side of the center pole to the side walls, constructed from
2 half-partitions, stitched together at the top. The partition is attached to the loops on the
inner tent at the roof and wall levels with 8 pairs of string, and to the center pole with 1 pair
of string. The partition can be maintained open with 2 additional pairs of string.
Each section should be fitted together by a male/female joint of 100mm made with an
inserted pipe point-welded or crimped into one of the pipes.

6 side poles of 1.25m with minimum outer diameter, 19mm painted pipes minimum 1mm
wall thickness, in 1 piece or in 2 pieces depending on the type of packaging. Each pole
comes with a bended 20-30mm pin on top in form of a flat hook. 4 door poles of 1.40m with
minimum outer diameter 19mm painted steel pipes minimum 1mm wall thickness, in 1
piece or in 2 pieces depending of the type of packaging. The 4 door poles come with a
50mm pin at the top.

Chimney
Chimney reinforcement with a non-perforated opening is placed at 0.50m from one corner. The
inside dimensions (width x height) are 250mm x 650mm. The chimney flap dimensions (width x
height) are 350mm x 750mm.
Windows
The outer tent has 2 long windows with mosquito netting and a rain flap running on both sides of the
tent.
The inside dimensions of the windows are 3600mm wide and 300mm high and the top edge of the
window is placed 100mm below the roof of the tent.
The window flap (width x height) is 3960mm x 400mm.
Ventilators
The outer tent has 2 ventilation openings in front and back with reinforcement netting and a rain flap.
