Welcome! Please join us for the 2015 UW College of Education (COE) Graduate New Student Orientation on September
29th. The event will help you learn about the College, meet faculty and other new students, and transition smoothly into
life as a graduate student. The following calendar will give you an idea of what to expect when you arrive.

attend this event to learn about relevant information and resources, and to participate in discussion about graduate

A good place to start to find non-University off-campus housing is the Student Housing Affairs office run by the Associated
Students of University of Washington (ASUW) and the Graduate and Professional Student Senate (GPSS). They have an
online database with housing listings that is accessible from their homepage at

Driving Directions to the University of Washington Campus
There are many entrances onto the University of Washington campus that will get you close to Miller Hall, where the
majority of the orientation events will occur. Below are the most common ones. For additional options, go to:

For your reference on your campus map, Miller Hall is located in the northeast corner of the “Quad” on the North end of
campus. The following options vary by both their location and parking options available.
North Entrance to the UW Campus: Option 1
From I-5 northbound, take the NE 45th Street exit (#169) and turn right onto NE 45th Street. From I-5 southbound, take
the NE 45th Street exit (#169) and turn left onto NE 45th Street. Once you are on NE 45th Street, continue east about one
quarter mile to 17th Ave NE. Turn right onto the main campus. Stop at the gatehouse (Gate #2) and tell the traffic guide
you want to go to Miller Hall. You will be issued a parking permit and given directions to the closest available parking
area. If you choose to park on campus in any of the “N” or “C” lots, you will pay a daily parking rate of $15. If you park for
less than four hours you’ll receive a partial refund at the gatehouse upon leaving (refunds on cash payments only).
East Entrance (near University Village) to the UW Campus: Option 2
From I-5 southbound, take the #168B exit (Bellevue/Kirkland) to State Route 520. Take the first exit off SR-520; the sign
will point to Montlake Boulevard NE. Turn left onto Montlake Blvd and continue north past Husky Stadium. If you are
coming west from SR-520, take the “Montlake Blvd.” exit, merge right, and continue north past Husky Stadium. Move
over into the far left lane to prepare for the fork in road. When the road splits, take the left fork onto 25th Avenue NE.
Proceed to the traffic light where you turn left onto Pend Oreille Road. Head up the hill to Gate #3; stop at the gatehouse
for directions to the closest available parking lot to Miller Hall and a parking permit. If you choose to park on campus in
any of the “N” or “C” lots, you will pay a daily parking rate of $15. If you park for less than four hours you’ll receive a
partial refund at the gatehouse upon leaving (refunds on cash payments only).
Montlake Parking Lot (east of the UW Campus): Option 3
From I-5 northbound, take the NE 45th Street exit (#169) and turn right onto NE 45th Street. From I-5 southbound, take
the NE 45th Street exit (#169). Turn left onto NE 45th Street. Continue east past the main entrance to the University of
Washington at 17th Avenue NE and onto the viaduct. Near the bottom of the viaduct, move into the left lane. Continuing
on NE 45th Street, move into the right lane. At the next traffic light (located at the 5-Corners intersection of NE 45th
Street, NE 45th Place, and Mary Gates Memorial Drive) turn right onto Mary Gates Memorial Drive. Take the first right
onto Clark Road. Proceed west to the NE entrance to the E-1 parking lot. If you park in the Montlake “E-1” parking lot,
you will pay $6 cash or electronically with money deposited onto your Husky Card. To get to upper campus, you will need
to cross one of the bridges and walk up several flights of stairs.
