murDer uNDer thE miCRoScoPe report Murder Under The Microscope is a website which requires you or your team to figure out which victim, villain and crimesite it is. There are 15 possible victims and villains and 10 possible crimesites. This website helps you on problem solving skills and elimination skills. There are three scientists; Danno, Ajete, and Alyssa who give you helpful clues about your investigation but they can also be red herrings. When the time is over, you must report your accusation to the accusation area on the website. Our team chose the Superb Fairy Wren for our victim. We chose this particular animal because Mario Montigari sent us an email which was a picture of a dead bird and the Superb Fairy Wren is a bird. We were sent the measurements and the weight of the bird from Dr Ajete which matched exactly to the Superb Fairy Wren but no other bird. A clue had also said that the victim was re-introduced to its habitat which means the victim does live in the crimesite and the Superb Fairy Wren lives in the Murrey River-Renmark which we chose for our crimesite. Evidence shows that the villain is the Red Headed Mouse Spider because it is a prey to the Superb Fairy Wren and can paralyse its prey causing the Superb Fairy Wren not be physically able to fly away and would be killed, but the red Imported Fire Ant, on the other hand, cannot kill the Superb Fairy Wren because it can just fly away. But the bird skeleton was only 8 weeks old so the bird probably not be able to escape. Later investigation lead us to the Red Imported Fire Ant, the Red Imported Fire Ant also viciously eats anything in its path including other small insects, the skeleton still had some of its flesh on it and a clue had said that there was no trace of insect decomposers – the Red Imported Fire Ant Eats ANYTHING in its way including other INSECTS. The crimesite we believed was the Murrey River-Renmark. One message was that no koalas lived in the crimesite and no koalas live in the Murrey RiverRenmark, the crimesite was also described as a fruit bowl and the Murrey River-Renmark produces mainly grapes and wine but also other fruits. Both, the villain and victim lives in this crimesite. Further research lead us to the North Para River because it can also be described as a food bowl, Koalas do not live in that area and both villain and victim live there, One of our investigators also said that the rebus puzzle Dr Ajete sent us was solved to be the North Para River but we assumed it was a red herring. We also thought the crimesite could be the Murrey River-Mildura but in some parts of that area is the koalas habitat. Our final choice was the: Victim: Superb Fairy Wren Crimesite: Murrey River-Renmark Villain: Red Headed Mouse Spider Overall our result was two out of three which is an overwhelming result! The wrong answer was the villain which we decided was the Red Headed Mouse Spider. Murder Under The Microscope is a great website, not only is it fun but very educational and hopefully it has helped a lot in my problem solving and elimination skills! Overall, I am greatful this was my subject for term 3! By James Gao 5H
