Life Threatening Allergies Plan
2015-16
We currently have several students with severe, life-threatening allergies to ALL NUTS and
one student severely allergic to SESAME. Unless you have heard specifically that sesame
is not permitted in your child's classroom, sesame is permitted but please use caution. Below are
details of our plan. This plan will be posted on our school's website for easy access.
NUTS
: The school asks for the consideration of all parents in continuing to be Nut Aware. A number of
our students have strong anaphylactic, life threatening allergies to peanuts and tree nuts almonds, walnuts,
cashews, pecans, etc…).We ask that students do not come to school with products containing
PEANUTS or TREENUTS.
Peanut cross-contamination is also a concern and students are encouraged to avoid all "may contain
peanuts" or "manufactured in facility that also uses peanuts" ingredients.
SESAME: Sesame is in lots of products, including many made breads, buns and bagels. Also, Hummus
contains sesame in the tahini – sesame paste.
Parents are permitted to send Sesame to school, however we ask that you speak to your children about
the following important precautions, demonstrate these precautions to your children and review them
regularly:




No sharing food, utensils or containers.
Clean all eating surfaces well after you have eaten.
Provide a napkin and have your child place food or snacks on a napkin rather than in direct
contact with a desk or table.
Children wash their hands before and after eating.
SCENTED PRODUCTS: Many children and adults have strong reactions to the heavy scents in perfumes,
deodorants, hair sprays, latex products and other cosmetic products. Please do not wear scented products in
and around the school.
