PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE RNCM Chamber Music Festival: Ludwig Van 3 Days Dedicated to the Chamber Music of Beethoven 11 – 13 January 2013 Box Office: 0161 907 5555 www.rncm.ac.uk/chambermusicfestival The 2013 RNCM Chamber Music Festival takes place at the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester, between Friday 11 and Sunday 13 January. This year, to coincide with the College’s 40th anniversary and Ludwig van season, the Festival focuses on Beethoven, a composer who transformed chamber music in the 19th century. Over three days, all 15 of Beethoven’s string quartets, together with his complete piano trios, will be performed, with concerts by the much-loved Endellion, Henschel and Talich Quartets, and the Gould Piano Trio. There will also be performances by the Sitkovetsky Trio, the RNCM’s Junior Fellows in Chamber Music, and the Cropper/Prause/Young Trio, a newly-formed ensemble comprising Peter Cropper (violin), artistic director and RNCM Director of Chamber Music, Petr Prause (cello), and Jeremy Young, RNCM Deputy Directory of Chamber Music (piano). Throughout the weekend, over 150 RNCM students will perform, alongside prize-winning ensembles, and we are delighted to welcome back young musicians from the Royal Irish Academy of Music, Chetham’s School of Music, St Mary’s School and our own Junior RNCM. There will also be three interactive workshops by violinist Levon Chilingirian, the Sitkovetsky Trio and Talich Quartet, each focussing on a different aspect of Beethoven’s chamber music writing; and Beethoven authority and Classic FM presenter, John Suchet, joins us to speak as part of the Festival’s illuminating lecture series. ‘The Festival is in its 15th year and until now we have focussed on the music of different composers,’ says Petr Prause. ‘This year, as the RNCM celebrates its 40th anniversary with a fantastic Ludwig van season, we are revisiting Beethoven, a phenomenal composer who transformed chamber music in the 19th century. ‘As always, we have a wonderful number of special guest ensembles and international musicians, as well as many young musicians from the RNCM and other specialist schools across Britain. It should be a fantastic weekend.’ For more information, or to request interviews, call Liz Rowley, PR and Media Relations Officer, on 0161 907 5369 or email liz.rowley@rncm.ac.uk - Ends - Notes to Editors Pricing information: See all 29 events (25 concerts and 4 masterclasses) for £140.
