Second Sunday in Easter
April 27, 2014
In preparing for worship, use the quiet time at the beginning of
the service to focus your attention on God. Prepare your
whole being, body, mind and spirit for honoring and praising
God!
One, that we may see the promise of Easter in the stirrings of
this precious earth and in the life energy flowing through our
bodies. Help us find faith to believe where we have not seen,
that others may see, in our living and our loving, the glory of
the risen Christ. Amen.

PRAISES AND PRAYERS AND LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy
kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not
into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the
kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen
GREETING
L: Let us pray: Your Easter people gather to praise you,
amazing God. Continue to make your ways known to us. Fill
us with your presence. We cannot live apart from you. Your
counsel and instruction are with us day and night. We have
only to open ourselves to your direction. Inspire in us fullness
of joy, we pray, as we respond in faith to the risen Christ and
embrace the tasks you set before us. Build up our sense of
community that we may truly care for one another through all
life’s trials. Amen.

SCRIPTURE PASSAGE – ACTS 2:14a, 22-32 (NLT)
14 Then Peter stepped forward with the eleven other apostles
and shouted to the crowd, 22 “People of Israel, listen! God
publicly endorsed Jesus the Nazarene[d] by doing powerful
miracles, wonders, and signs through him, as you well know.
23 But God knew what would happen, and his prearranged
plan was carried out when Jesus was betrayed. With the help
of lawless Gentiles, you nailed him to a cross and killed him.
24 But God released him from the horrors of death and raised
him back to life, for death could not keep him in its grip. 25
King David said this about him:
‘I see that the Lord is always with me.
I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me.
26 No wonder my heart is glad,
and my tongue shouts his praises!
My body rests in hope.
27 For you will not leave my soul among the dead[e]
or allow your Holy One to rot in the grave.
28 You have shown me the way of life,
and you will fill me with the joy of your presence.’[f]
29 “Dear brothers, think about this! You can be sure that the
patriarch David wasn’t referring to himself, for he died and
was buried, and his tomb is still here among us. 30 But he
was a prophet, and he knew God had promised with an oath
that one of David’s own descendants would sit on his throne.
31 David was looking into the future and speaking of the
Messiah’s resurrection. He was saying that God would not
leave him among the dead or allow his body to rot in the
grave.
32 “God raised Jesus from the dead, and we are all witnesses
of this.

ALLPORT/BIGLER/WOODLAND WORK CAMP
June 22-27, 2014
Lake Street UM Church “Work Camp” program of the
Woodland Parish of the United Methodist Church
In June 2012, a week-long work camp was started where
volunteers locally as well as from all over Central PA make
small home repairs for homeowners in need in our area. In
each of these past two years, they were able to complete
twenty different projects. They are looking for volunteers to
commit to helping by physically working on projects, donating
money to help pay for lumber, paint, nails, etc.
Please see Pastor Sue for the volunteer form as well as how
to donate to this great “Volunteer In Mission” work right in our
own backyard.
YOUTH GROUP will be meeting APRIL 27th at the
Parsonage from 4:30-6:00PM. Pastor Kenny Leonard will be
sharing how to make Blue Bird Boxes.
Youth will be meeting May 4 and May 18 where Tom Condon
will be sharing about planting.
Please watch your bulletins for meetings that are scheduled.
Every week there is a list of meetings and events. If you are
on the committee that is meeting, please mark your calendars
and come to the meeting so we can all do the business of the
church – which it to make Disciples of Christ. Our efforts
matter!
