To learn and understand the pathophysiology, diagnosis, management and treatment of the following diseases a. Allergic and Nonallergic rhinitis b. Allergic and Nonallergic asthma c. Food Allergy d. Atopic Dermatitis e. Venom Allergy f. Penicillin and other drug allergies g. Acute and Chronic Urticaria h. Eosinophilic Esophagitis i. Contact Dermatitis j. Anaphylaxis The resident will be expected to spend time in the following specialty clinics (if available): 2. 3. 4. 5. Immunotherapy clinic a. The Windsor Allergy Asthma Associates have a clinic designed specifically to give allergy immunotherapy, venom immunotherapy and Xolair immunotherapy. b. Resident will learn the basics of immunotherapy, the pros, cons and contraindications of immunotherapy, and how to properly administer allergen immunotherapy. They will also learn how to watch for eh side effects of immunotherapy – and treatment of possible anaphylaxis Oral Food Callenge Clinic (held 1 Tuesday per month) a. Clinic is held at Windsor Regional Hospital – Met Campus – 3rd Floor – Pediatric Outpaitents. b. Children suspected of a Type 1 – IgE mediated anaphylactic reaction to foods are challenged at this clinic. c. Teaching points: Assessment of food allergy, management of anaphylaxis. Penicillin Allergy Assessment clinic (held 1 day every month) Windsor Allergy Asthma Education Centre a. Resident will take part in education families about the patholphysiology, diagnosis, management and treatment of pediatric asthma b. 2 types of classes offered: i. Preschool education classes (2 evenings) ii. Family Asthma Program (3 evenings) Scheduling: Can take 1 resident for 2 to 4 week electives or as a horizontal elective ½ day at a time. PLEASE NOTE: ELECTIVES MUST BE FOUR WEEKS (1 MONTH) IN DURATION (PART OF A MONTH IS NOT ACCEPTABLE). ALL ELECTIVES LISTED BELOW AND ANY REQUESTS FOR ELECTIVES IN LONDON HOSPITALS ARE ARRANGED BY SHARON STORY, DEPT. OF FAMILY MEDICINE, WESTERN (WE HAVE A CITY-WIDE SCHEDULING COMMITTEE THAT DEALS WITH THE CORE AND ELECTIVE LONDON HOSPITAL ROTATIONS).
