Glen Lake Protective Association Newsletter July 2014 The Glen Lake Summer Picnic meeting is Monday, July 7 @ The Glenmoore Lodge starting at 6 pm. Please bring a dish to pass. Cost is $5.00 per person to cover burgers, hot dogs, and beverages. Herbicide Treatment Delayed: Due to circumstances beyond our control, the herbicide treatment to control Eurasian milfoil has been delayed until July. The membership requested that we not treat to interfere with July 4th weekend. Consequently, the treatment will take place after that. A map showing treatment areas has been posted on our website [www.nyglenlake.org] and our Facebook page, which can also be accessed via our website. On the day of the treatment, streets along the perimeter of the lake will be posted with signs and the GLPA will post it on our website and Facebook page. There are potable water use restrictions associated with this treatment. The GLPA has limited funds to supply drinking water. If you need drinking water, have questions or need additional information, please call Paul Derby at 518-761-7015. Please Stay Out of the Milfoil!!! Because we were unable to treat the lake in a timely manner, the milfoil has, unfortunately, increased. Not only is there a large infestation now emerging outside of the Milfoil Warning Buoyed Area at the inlet, but there are also matted beds around the Big Island, St. Mary’s Bay, and the outlet bay including Barber’s Bay. Eurasian Milfoil spreads by fragmentation. When boats or jet skis go into the beds, the pieces break off and spread throughout the lake. Please pick up floating plant fragments and throw them out! Nominations: The nominating committee has put forth the following slate for the August election – Paul Derby president, Bud Taylor Vice President, Carol Snyder Treasurer, Linda Clark Membership Secretary, Michele Mayer Recording Secretary, and Ron Kuhl and Dean Boucher for Directors. Additional nominations can be taken from the floor at the July meeting. THANK YOU to Chris Mozal for hosting our successful June meeting at the Docksider and to Carol Snyder for becoming our interim treasurer. A very special “thank you” to Lorrie Graves for her many years of service to the Glen Lake Protective Association, and thanks also to Dave Graves for his service to the lake. We will certainly miss them. Respectfully, Paul Derby, president
