POSITION SUMMARY: Supervises the delivery of educational services to preschool age children with disabilities and
students with visual impairments ensuring that all students receive appropriate educational and support services in the
least restrictive environment and are consistent with the mission statement and instructional goals of the district.
Supervises the evaluation, identification, and placement of students assigned to the Autism/REACH Program. Monitors,
coordinates, and processes all billing related to programs, services and related services within the division of Exceptional
Student Services.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
 Supervises the day-to-day activities of assigned staff. In conjunction with the Human Resources Department, Legal
Department, and other departments (as needed) duties include hiring, training, counseling, and evaluating staff
performance.
 Supervises the evaluation and identification of students with preschool disabilities and the identification, placement,
and evaluation of students assigned to the Autism/REACH Program.
 Supervises the delivery of special educational services to preschool age children with disabilities and students with
visual impairments ensuring all students receive appropriate educational and support services in the least restrictive
environment and are consistent with the mission statement and instructional goals of the district.
 Provides assistance and consultation to special education staff in the development of work plans to improve individual
student achievement, identification, referral and effective utilization of available district and community-based
resources, coordination of intervention services, and implementation of federal, state and local initiatives and
mandates.
 Represents the district at IEP and MFE meetings assisting in the resolution of various student concerns and ensuring
compliance with related federal, state, local, and district regulations and expectations.
 Works cooperatively with special education personnel and building administrators to coordinate program and service
delivery and ensures that all students receive appropriate educational and support services.
 Monitors district compliance with federal and state regulations and requirements relating to the provision of
educational services to students with disabilities.
 Monitors, coordinates, and processes all billing related to programs, services, and related services within the division
of Exceptional Student Services.
 Coordinates due process case management procedures that provide for the identification, evaluation and placement
of preschool age students with special needs and students with vision impairments.
 Ensures departmental staff maintains required credentials and facilitates on-going staff development opportunities
that align with district strategies and objectives.
 Plans and conducts staff training and in-service programs regarding the implementation of district initiatives, trends for
students with diverse learning needs, best practices, and compliance concerns related to students with special needs.
 Administers assigned budget(s); ensures expenditures are within the approved budget(s).
 Maintains program records and files.
 Prepares required documentation and reports.
 Serves as the liaison between the Columbus City Schools programs and other agencies in the central Ohio area
serving children with preschool deficits and visual impairments.
 Serves as a resource to district staff, parents, and community agencies.
 Develops and maintains appropriate communication and relationships with all departments, and officials of
appropriate agencies.
 Resolves problems, situations or issues in a collaborative, tactful, courteous and respectful manner.

Coordinates the transition process for preschool children.
Monitors the provision of special education services to Columbus City Schools’ preschool age children with special
needs and visually impaired students who are being serves by agencies other than the district.
Evaluates and recommends the purchase of new instructional materials, assistive technology, and equipment as
appropriate.
Coordinates the production of Braille and large print instructional materials and assessments.
Coordinates the provision of safe and appropriate transportation of students with preschool deficiencies and visual
impairments.
Maintains current knowledge of federal and state mandates related to the instruction of students with special needs
and recommends changes to programs and services as necessary.
Performs other duties as assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
 Master's degree in Special Education or a related field.
 Five (5) or more years of related experience including supervisory responsibilities.
 Valid Ohio Department of Education Administrator license or equivalent.
 Leadership skills necessary to provide guidance, train, and review the work of assigned staff.
 Demonstrated knowledge of accrediting and regulatory standards and district policies related to assigned functions.
 Written and computer skills necessary to maintain various departmental records, documents and reports.
 Strong written and verbal communication skills, including effective presentation skills.
 Interpersonal skills necessary to communicated effectively and work productively with all levels of district staff,
students, parents and the general public.
 Analytical ability to develop plans of action to address a variety of issues and concerns in a timely manner.
 Mathematical aptitude necessary to administer assigned budgets, facilitate and executed billing and monitor
expenditures.
 Demonstrated ability to have effective verbal and written communication skills and be able to handle situations in a
tactful, courteous and respectful manner.
