The Charlotte Hornets are sponsoring their annual “Career in Sports Day” on Friday, March 6. This will
be our fourth Field Trip to Charlotte for this event and once again should be a unique learning
experience for the 8th grade Business Education students! The game that night will be an exciting one as
the Charlotte Hornets are hosting the Toronto Raptors with a televised start time of 7:00 PM.
For those who may not be familiar with Career in Sports Day, it is an event that allows students to get a
“behind the scenes” look at what executives in the sports industry do from day to day, how they began
their careers, and advice on beginning a professional career in the field of sports. In addition, this is a
wonderful opportunity for students interested in marketing, sales, arena management, sports and
broadcasting since executives from the Time Warner Arena may be on the speaker panel as well.
The students will leave MMS around 9:00 AM and will be taking charter buses, which will first stop at
Concord Mills Mall for lunch. After we arrive in Charlotte, we will follow this agenda:
2:30-3:15 PM
3:30-4:30 PM
4:30-4:50 PM
6:00 PM
7:00 PM
Registration open; pick up tickets and t-shirts, head to seats for speaker panel
Speaker panel and Q&A session
Behind-the-Scenes opportunity to watch teams warm up from seats
Doors open for game against the Toronto Raptors
Tip-off!
Total cost of the event is $65 if students did NOT sell 10 or more MMS Discount Cards. If they sold 10
or more MMS Discount Cards, the cost is $40. Students will get to listen to the speaker panel, receive a
game ticket and a Hornets Sling Bag. Students will need money for lunch and supper on the day of the
Field Trip.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The Hornets will not reimburse us for tickets if someone does not show up due to
illness, changing their mind, etc. Should that happen, we will only be able to reimburse a student for the
bus expense but not the Bobcats package cost since we have to prepay all expenses weeks in advance.
We will return around 10:30 PM. If your child has a cell phone, he/she can bring it to let you know what
time we leave the game. The game usually ends around 9:30 PM.
Please return your permission form to your Business Education teacher no later than Friday, February
6. If paying by check, please make the check payable to Meadowlark Middle School and designate
“Career in Sports Day” on the “For” line.
If students receive ISS, OSS or a D-1 between now and the trip, they will not be eligible to attend.
If there is a delay, we will still go on March 6. However, if school is cancelled, we will attend another
Hornets game at a later date. Please remember that the Hornets will not reimburse us if students
decide not to attend the rescheduled Field Trip.
If your child is attending the Career in Sports Field Trip, please return the bottom part of this form by
Friday, February 6 with payment for the Field Trip. We are required to prepay the Hornets, which is
why we need payment no later than February 6.
We are looking forward to another successful “Career in Sports” Day with our 8th grade Business
Education students!
