Workshop in Introduction to Metabolomics The workshop will be held as part of the 2016 joint South African Association of Botanists (SAAB) and South African Society for Systematic Biology (SASSB) conference that will be held from 10 to 13 January 2016 on the campus of the Free State University (UFS) in Bloemfontein. The workshop itself will be presented from 13 to 15 January 2016 under the auspices of the University of South Africa (UNISA), College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences,. Metabolomics involves the rapid, high throughput characterization of the small molecule metabolites found in an organism. Since the metabolome is closely tied to the genotype of an organism, its physiology and its environment, metabolomics offers a unique opportunity to investigate the genotype-phenotype as well as genotype-envirotype relationships. The workshop is particularly aimed at researchers investigating the biological mechanisms, physiological processes and medicinal activity of plants to isolate and identify primary and secondary metabolites changed or altered in the organisms’ composition. Date: Wednesday January 13th to Friday January 15th, 2016 Venue: UFS Business School, University of the Free State campus, Nelson Mandela Drive, Bloemfontein.
