PROGRAMME MANAGER:
INTEGRATED CATCHMENT MANAGEMENT
Salary R550,991 per annum (Total Cost of Employment) – Level 12
CapeNature seeks to appoint a Programme Manager to provide strategic leadership and direction in fire and
related catchment management activities pursuant to the biodiversity and social mandate of the organization.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
 Facilitate, co-ordinate and provide strategic input into all catchment management related issues, including fire
management and relevant projects within CapeNature to ensure maximum conservation and socio-economic
outcomes
 Promote an integrated catchment approach to fire, catchment and alien vegetation management
 Facilitate and promote the implementation of “best practice” within the catchment and infrastructure
management mandate of CapeNature
 Mobilisation and maintenance of internal and external capacity in pursuit of programme objectives (including
building and maintenance of internal as well as external partnerships)
 Enhance the resource capacity (human and equipment) and resource use within the organization through
training and setting of standards
 Facilitate the implementation of Integrated Catchment Management (ICM) standards
 Provide strategic and functional leadership to, and overall management of the catchment management team,
including capacity building and mentorship
 Represent CapeNature at local, national and international forums
 Interpretation and execution of the corporate vision and policy, as well as relevant legislation
 Overall financial, human resources and asset management of the component
REQUIREMENTS:









A tertiary qualification in the natural or environmental sciences and/or conservation management
At least 5-7 years managerial experience in a biodiversity environment, including fire, catchment and fynbos
ecosystem management
Appropriate and demonstrable fire management experience
Incident Command qualifications (preferably ICS 400 or ICS 420) and skills
Sound knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation
Sound interpersonal and communication skills
Computer literacy, with proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint) and
demonstrable proficiency in Geographical Information Systems (ArcView)
A valid Code 08 drivers license, with own reliable vehicle and willingness to travel extensively throughout the
Western Cape Province
Bilingualism in two of the three official languages of the Western Cape Province
