Oversee the recruitment process for veterans, guardsmen, reservists and their
dependents and help them to utilize their educational benefit to complete a program of
study. Develop and maintain a recruitment and retention plan for this constituency.
Oversee programs at all campuses and learning centers that assist veterans, guardsmen,
and reservists with enrollment, re-admittance, persistence, and completion of a
program of study.
Advise the college on developing or improving programming, policies, and procedures

Job Description
75%: Works under the direct supervision of the Assistant Dean of Students. Manages the day
to day operations of the Center for Veteran and Military Affairs including the development and
oversight of all major programs. Coordinates and facilitates the functions of the center staff.
Overall responsible for the development and enhancement of university services for veterans,
service members, dependents and survivors. Responsible for the development and
implementation of military-veteran friendly policies and procedures.

1. Direct, develop and coordinates strategies and programs to assist with the

U of Iowa. Work with community colleges in Iowa and surrounding states to help

The Director for Veteran and Military Program and Services has the lead responsibility for the
development and coordination of a comprehensive program of support services for veteran,
military and dependent students at all three campuses of the University. The Director serves as
the principle advocate for student veterans, military and dependents as well as ensures the
quality of policies, programs activities and services designed to enhance their educational
experiences. The Director also serves as the University’s liaison with outside agencies and
offices, at the state and federal levels, whose work impacts the lives of veterans, military and
their family members.
