Role purpose
We seek an enthusiastic and self-motivated cyclotron engineer to join our team to maintain our RDS
112 cyclotron and associated infrastructure and instrumentation. The candidate will play an
important role in the planning, installation and commissioning of our new GE PETtrace cyclotron
and associated equipment due to be installed during the coming months. The post holder will be
responsible for development of cyclotron activities and performance (e.g. radionuclides, yields.
specific activity, targetry and automation) and day to day support, including planned preventative
and corrective maintenance, spares ordering, staff training in cyclotron operation and smooth
running of the cyclotrons and associated equipment. They will play a lead role in the investigation
and communication of operational updates and issues to appropriate staff members.
The post holder will report to the chief cyclotron engineer and work closely with the operations,
technical and administrative PET laboratory managers to optimise the day-to-day activities of the
role.
As an excellent communicator and team player, the post holder will work proactively with the
Chemistry team (Head of PET Chemistry, radiochemistry production, QC/QA staff, chemistry
development group) and key PET centre staff including radiographers, clinicians and departmental
managers to ensure a smooth running operation for research and clinical utilisation of the cyclotron.
Suitable applicants will have an excellent track record in cyclotron maintenance and operation.
Previous experience in producing mechanical and electrical engineering support for automated
systems is highly desirable. Experience in the synthesis and analysis of PET radiotracers and working
