Welcome! We invite you to the world of permanent make up. Once you have mastered the skill of
Micropigmentation/Cosmetic Tattooing, you will be able to successfully take charge of your career. A
proper education will give you the skills to be successful in becoming a Professional Micropigmentation
Specialist. You will learn the art of eyebrows & eyeliner application. We will outline the basic
fundamentals of Micropigmentation, which will qualify you to start working right away. Our education
here at The Hawaii Academy of Permanent Cosmetics, will give you the basic fundamental knowledge of
color theory, equipment differences using the most highest grade pigments and state of art equipment.
The proper use of anesthetics and numbing agents, laws and state regulations, legal documentation,
release and consent forms, client consultation, state licensing, and insurance information. Curriculum is
based on the SPCP instructional course. –Society of Permanent Cosmetic Professionals.

Micropigmentation Specialist
Our instructor, Edine Swain, CPCP, is trained in all phases of Permanent Make up and Para Medical Tattooing Technology. She
is certified by, the Society of Permanent Cosmetic Professionals (SPCP), an association dedicated to advocate permanent
makeup safety, excellence, and setting professional standards by allocating well-informed education, certification, and
industry guidelines. Edine attends training programs provided by the SPCP annually to keep up with the constant changes and
findings with in this unique industry. Not only does she have the credentials and over 19 years experience in the industry, she
is devoted and passionate in continuing the highest standards in the cosmetics tattooing professional industry. She is trained
with the latest techniques and procedures available, which ensures that our students are receiving the best possible current
information and education.
Outline for Basic Fundamental Course
This beginner course will teach you basic fundamentals of Micro-Pigmentation. This is an intensive training program that will
give you full knowledge, understanding and confidence that you will need to start doing Permanent Make Up.
Sterilization and Sanitation
Disinfection and sanitation of products – needle disposal - barrier film – gloves – proper sizing – product packaging – CDC and
OSHA – Universal precautions.
Anatomy of the Skin
Life span of cell – cell exfoliation – functions of the skin. Anatomy of the eye area.
Skin Tone
Type of skin tone – ethnicities and nationalities (why are they so important) – understanding skin undertones – cool or warm
colors.
Facial Shapes
Symmetry and design – creating the perfect brow and liner shapes for the individual.
Color Theory
Understanding the color wheel – pigment color – base color– selecting color for the right undertone – color changing and why
does it happen.
Pigment Theory
Pigment – Patch testing – how are they made – categorizing pigments.
Modalities
Hand tool, rotary machine, coil machine and digital machine – which is best for you – Needle configuration – proper needle
selection for procedure.
Application Techniques
Types of application (front push, back push, stroking, brushing, circle) – Proper needle depth. Dangers of going to deep and
incorrect positioning.
Room Set Up
Quick set up, everything at your finger tips – OSHA standard – cross contamination – universal health precautions.
Anesthetics and Numbing Cream
Different types of anesthetics – History of anesthetics.
Client Consultation
How to have a success consultation – step by step consultation – Medical history on your client – asking the right question
during consulting.
Note Taking and Documentation
Importance of notes and documenting – picture taking – before and after.
Release and Consent Forms
Importance of explaining and signing – Medical history

Practice! Practice! Practice! Instructor will show a demonstration of Eyebrow and Eyeliner procedures on practice pads and
on live model. Then you will tattoo on practice pads and on live model.
Written Exam
You must complete a 125 question exam and techniques will be graded. Students must do three out of three procedures; pass
performance test, and written exam before receiving their certification. If students do not provide any models, model practice
will be done on synthetic skin for a passing.
Refresher Courses
All students may take refresher course within one year of their enrollment for a minimal cost. This also includes any student
that has not passed the procedures and performance tests. Proof of prior enrollment is required to register. Model continuing
education: Students are allowed up to 3-6 models after the class is finished for up to one year of enrollment date. Model fees
will apply per session.

Class time is approximately 8 hours a day for 6 days. This includes the time for your model procedures. It is mandatory that
you complete two procedures to receive certification. A written exam will be given on the last day of instruction. Initial

It is understood that if I have any special needs required to complete the on site portion of the class, I must notify HAPC of
these needs no later than two weeks in advance of the scheduled first day of class. Example: latex allergy, visual impairment,
physically challenged or any other disability. Our Building does not have an elevator.

It is understood that I must finish all hours of training including evening homework study assignments, complete the
competency written test at a passing score of 75% and perform satisfactory hands on procedures in order to receive a

It is understood there is no guarantee of success in the permanent cosmetic industry, and that Edine Swain/HAPC does not

If the class you are enrolling for is a basic fundamental permanent cosmetic course, it is your responsibility after the
fundamental class to seek continuing education and advanced training if desired. Initial __________
HAPC/Face It provides all post class support for a period of one year via email, or by during regular business hours.

I understand that during class, the procedures I will be conducting are invasive. It is my responsibility to acquire the Hepatitis
B series of immunizations prior to my class date, or I agree to decline the Hepatitis B inoculation process in writing. In any
case, I will not hold Edine Swain and/or her associates, HAPC and Face It harmless for any accidental exposure to Blood Borne

You are required to obtain a Board of Sanitation Tattoo License from the State of Hawaii prior to tattooing with in Face It LLC’s
clinic floor. You are required to retain three models for your clinical hands-on training. HAPC will not be responsible for
providing models for your clinical. If you are not able to provide the amount of models needed, a synthetic skin model can be

There is a $125 model fee for the first application done by student – $ 85.00 there after for up to 2 more applications done by

Attendance: This is an intense educational class , attendance is the student’s responsibility. If any student feels they are
unable to complete the course as needed, they must notify the instructor immediately so further arrangements can be made.
The tuition amount will remain the same. If you missed an instructional day. You will be required to make it up on the next
day of education on the subjects you have missed in the next scheduled class. Edine will not give a one on one for day (s) you
have missed. This will hold you back from receiving your certificate of completion to a later date. Initial___________
Cancelled or Relocated Classes: HAPC reserves the right to cancel a class at its’ discretion, if the attendance does not meet our
minimum requirements. Students shall be notified and rescheduled. HAPC reserves the right to relocate a class if unforeseen
circumstances force us to do so. Students will be notified as soon as the new location information is confirmed and established.

Refund Policy: If any student decides to withdraw from the course for any reason he or she will not receive a refund. However,
HAPC will commit to a two-year extension from the student’s original registration date to complete and finalize the course.

Questions or Grievances: The Hawaii Academy of Permanent Cosmetics (HAPC) will make every effort to resolve any concerns that
a student may have, and such questions should be submitted to the Director as soon as it is practical to do so.
