Society for Hematopathology Hematopathology Fellowship Program Directors’ Breakfast Meeting MEETING MINUTES DATE: 3/22/2015 (Sunday) TIME: 7:00 to 9:00 am LOCATION: SH Fairfax, Sheraton Boston ATTENDEES: On file with Nilda Barrett from ASCP MEETING TOPICS AND OBJECTIVES: To update the program directors on current projects and efforts of the SH Education Committee. SUMMARY OF DISCUSSIONS: 1. Updates of the Virtual Hematopathology Teaching Archive Project Dr. Horatiu Olteanu, member of the Education Committee, presented updates on the SH Workshop component of the TA project. Due to substantial cost of the ASCP proposal, the SH Executive Committee has decided to have the SH site to host the SH Workshop cases in PDF files. There are 24 cases that have been selected for the purpose of TA from the 2011 SH Workshop (Cutaneous Lymphomas and Their Mimics). Both the case submission information and presentation files of those selected cases are now viewable at the SH website. Dr. Scott Rodig, Chair of the SH Case of the Quarter (COQ), presented updates related to the COQ, which is now hosted at the ASCP website with whole slide scan image and live CME modules. Changes for the COQ include the following: a. Upon acceptance of the case, the submitter is responsible for writing SAMs and CME questions based upon the educational points of the case; b. The submitter will submit a single glass slide along with the case, which will later be returned; c. The case, educational questions, and glass slide are submitted to ASCP to build the education module and to scan slide into Aperio for virtual access by the EAHP-SH visitor; d. Upon completion of the course and review questions, visitor can claim CME credit. Matt Smith, Manager of e-Learning, and Suzanne Ziemnik, Vice-President, Continuing Professional Development, from ASCP, gave a brief tutorial on how to access COQ and obtain CME via the ASCP website. 2. RISE/FISHE Core Hematopathology Test Subcommittee Dr. Rachel Sargent, the new Chair for the Hematology/Hematopathology Section of the RISE/FISHE Committee, presented the Subcommittee efforts from 2014 - 2015 as on-going collaboration between SH and ASCP. In addition to confirmation of new members for 2015 - 2016, the Subcommittee will soon confirm 22 questionwriting volunteers. Starting 2014, questions for RISE/FISHE can be submitted on line using the ASCP Path Items Database. Dr. Sara Monaghan, the exiting Chair for the Core Subcommittee presented studies correlating FISHE scores with passing of the ABP Hematology Board Exam, as a joint project with ASCP and ABP. 3. Current Status of the NAS Hematopathology Fellowship Milestones Dr. Mark Brissette, Chair of Hematopathology Milestones Subcommittee, presented updates on the Milestone project. The Milestones for Hematopathology Fellowship have been completed, and will go into effect on July 1, 2015. The first reporting date is expected to be in late December in 2015 to early January in 2016. In light of the new development, Dr. Brissette asks the program directors to review the Milestones at http://www.acgme.org/acgmeweb/Portals/0/PDFs/Milestones/HematologyPathologyMilestones.pdf, to educate colleagues on the Milestones, to create new evaluation tools as necessary, to use AP/CP Program Director as a resource, and to create a Clinical Competency Committee for the fellowship program.
