DeBerry Keeping It Simple In Heb. 5:9, Jesus is referred to as “the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him.” Now, if He is the author, that means He wrote the book, and is the source of eternal salvation to all who “obey Him.” Who could know more than the author, the Son of God, who came down from heaven to show us what is necessary to get right with God? Heb. 12:2 says He is “the author [“originator”] and finisher [“perfecter”] of our faith.” So He not only drew up the blue print, He also fine-tuned all the points to make sure they would accomplish what He desired of them. Do you really think man could do a better job than the Son of God? And how does this measure up with other important Bible passages? Let’s see! To G R O W GROW : = = = = Go Right On Working! (Ages: 3 thru adult) Matt. 28:18—“All authority has been given unto Me in heaven and on earth.” Jn. 3:34—“He whom God sent speaks the words of God. Jn. 12:48-49—“The word that I have spoken will; judge him in the last day.” Jn. 14:6—“No man cometh unto the Father except through Me.” Matt. 17:5—In the presence of Moses and E-lijah, God spoke and said, “This is My Be-loved Son, in whom I am well-pleased.. Hear Him.” Gal. 3:23-25—“The law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith … but after [the] faith has [P. 21] come…we are no longer under a tutor.” Gal. 2:21—“If righteousness comes through the law then Christ died in vain.” Gal. 5:4—“You have been severed from Christ, you who would be justified by the law.” Eph. 1:23-25—He was placed “far above all principality, power [“authority”], might and dominion that is named, not only is this age but also that which is to come…And He put all things under His feet and gave Him to be head over all things to the church.” Col. 1:15-18—He is “the firstborn over all creation…For by Him all things were created… That in all things He may have the preeminence.” We could keep on going a long time. But if Jesus us the author and finisher of our faith, and no one can get to heaven but through Him, then why would anyone put any man, group of men, pope or even a false prophet (Gal. 1:8-10) above Him? More importantly, why wouldn’t they obey Him? --DPA GOSPEL MEETING Speaker: Greg King July 21-23 (Jamestown, Ind.) (Sunday through Tuesday) Time: 7:30 PM Night (Sun. regular time) Public Invited! Come, study the word of God with us! When Your Heart Is Broken The God who knows how many stars are in the heavens; the God who gives each one of them a name , is the same God who not only knows about your broken heart, but heals it. “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. He counts the number of the stars, He gives names to all of them” (Psa. 147:3-4). He is the same God who sent His Son to accomplish this (Isa. 61:1; Lk. 4:14-22). “Sing to the LORD with thanksgiving” (Psa. 147:7). –Bryan Bickford (Plano, Ill. bulletin) {P. 22] 2 Thess. 1:6-9 “Since it is a righteous thing with God to repay with tribulation those who trouble you, and to give you who are troubled rest with us when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power.” “When the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven.” Jesus IS coming again! He will be revealed from heaven. He promised, “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also” (Jn. 14:3). After Jesus ascended to heaven, to those who saw Him an angel said, “This same Jesus, who was taken up from you in-to heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven” (Acts 1:11). It is easy to get so involved in everyday life that we forget that He is going to come again. The importance of many things is lessened when viewed from the perspective that Jesus can come at any time. Putting up with suffering, persecution, and sacrifice becomes more bearable if we keep in the forefront of our minds that Jesus will come again to reward us. Life is not just a string of problems with death being the only relief. But remember, Jesus will come with rest and punishment in His hand. His “mighty angels” will be with Him, there will be no one or no thing able to stand against Him. He’s coming! Now is the time to choose to be on His side so as to receive rest from Him, not punishment. –David Diestelkamp (Westside; Aurora, Ill. bulletin) When life’s problems seem overwhelming, look around and see what other people are coping with.
