Holy Trinity Rosehill are delighted to welcome … Tim Rylands and Sarah Neild Two award winning teachers, sharing a vast amount of ways to use technology to motivate, and inspire, children of all ages, and abilities. Join us… “Laughter and learning combined… to great effect”! 1 www.holytrinityrosehill.co.uk/icttoinspire “I stepped out into a landscape of almost unbearable beauty, a feathered sky stretching out across the silken sea, warm sand beneath my feet. Turning, I saw steps, foot worn and timeless, winding downwards. Where would they lead me?'” Tom aged 9 Tim Rylands, winner of the 2005 Becta ICT in Practice Award, and Sarah Neild, a finalist of the 2004 Becta ICT in Practice Award, will present many inspiring, accessible tools and ideas for raising the level of writing, speaking and listening, and creativity in children of all ages. A practical exploration of some of the virtual worlds and visual literacy elements that have had a huge impact on raising children’s confidence across the creative curriculum. Come prepared to be inspired and to leave with many practical ideas to apply back in the classroom. In this goal driven age, we could think that education is imparting a body of knowledge, rather than a shared journey of discovery. There are so many pressures put upon educators these days that enjoyment, inspiration, creativity, and fun can be forced out of the classroom. We need to inspire young people and inspire their imaginations; enhance their creativity and confidence so they can pick ideas up and start to juggle with them; encourage resourcefulness through challenge, but also the ability to reflect, change and benefit from the experience of others; to motivate a love of learning for life. Fascination is a tool that can be easily neglected. This digital world, when mixed with the analogue, brings such potential for communication. Technology is not the only answer… but, it does open up some remarkable opportunities, to extend teaching and learning styles. We will take apart the powerful effect of using games, many useful Web2 tools and software (most of it free), hand-held devices and more, - modelling a way of teaching, where quality learning is the focus rather than the latest gadget; ‘what is said, rather than what is used to say it’. Investigating how virtual worlds, with their stunning , peaceful characters and realistic challenges, can be used across subject areas, abilities age ranges, with remarkable effects: developing speaking, listening and writing abilities and raising confidence and self-esteem. As well as showing a huge, and accessible, range of ways to engage, and motivate students of all ages, and abilities, Tim and Sarah will reinforce how these elements are not only essential for quality learning experiences to take place, but how they can also have a massive impact on standards, achievement … and enjoyment! 2 Twitter hashtag #ICT2Inspire www.holytrinityrosehill.co.uk/icttoinspire Programme for the Days … Day 1 ……………… Tim will lead sessions at Holy Trinity Rosehill School, working with our children in a classroom situation.
