Description of task:

You will be assigned a topic area on the Cold War from 1945 to 1991.
The topics will be assigned from the following list:

Development of the Cold War to
The Korean War
1968 and Renewal and end of the
Cold War

Detente

The arms race and nuclear
disarmament
The Vietnam War
Renewal and end of the Cold War
Development of the Cold War to

1968
The Soviet invasion of
Afghanistan

The space race

The Cuban Missile Crisis

Glasnost and perestroika

The fall of the Berlin Wall and
the collapse of the Eastern
Bloc
Origins of the Cold War

Your task is to evaluate and explain what this event demonstrates about the
phase/s of the Cold War of which it is a part and its significance to the Cold
War.
Your research should be presented as 10-15 minute powerpoint presentation.
Your presentation should include:

An outline of the event itself

An evaluation of the event’s place within the relevant phase of the Cold War
and its impact on and significance to the Cold War itself, including different
perspectives on this.
The inclusion of historians’ opinions (Gaddis, Volkhonov, for example) is one way
you can include differing perspectives, but the focus should be on your own informed
conclusions.
Remember to acknowledge sources consulted and used using the Harvard
system and a correctly-formatted Bibliography.

Include annotations for TWO sources used as part of your research
within your Bibliography. Your annotations should assess the source for its
usefulness and reliability in terms of your research. Each annotation should
be no more than 100 words.

You should divide your Bibliography under headings separating
resources into – books, journals/newspapers, websites and
documentaries/movies. Remember to give the author, URL and date
accessed for internet material and the author, date of publication,
title, publisher and place of publication for print material.

Plagiarism is the copying and using of material by other people as
though it was your own. Ensure that all sources are acknowledged.
Plagiarism will result in the loss of marks and possible failure of the task.
