UPDATE PATIENT EDUCATION
Anne has been active in trying to get this project up and running. As a group we discussed and agreed that the 2 nd , 3rd Wednesday in
November would be a suitable date to have this evening. Anne and
Bev are to attend an afternoon clinic prior to the event to give out flyers telling patients about this evening. POST MEETING NOTE: We have now come up with a date of Wednesday 27 th November,
6.30pm (18.30) at the Surgery The title of this evening has been given
“Keep Well, Keep Safe and ask for Help if you need it”.
A representative from the Carers Association will be giving a 10 minute talk and also we have made arrangements for representatives from the local fire brigade and to also give a talk regarding safety in the home. Dr Sood confirmed she would be happy to support and promote the event with her patients.

Anne is still chasing this and will provide updates in future meetings.
Anne attended a meeting for this Association at the Racecourse in
Nottingham. Anne said approx. 20 people attended representing around 17 Practices within the East Midlands. There were discussions about PPGs attending and how long they had been running. The groups attending were established between 6 months and up to 8 years. Discussions were also about Training and how other PPG groups conducted their meetings. Anne was under the impression that our Group was well ahead and was well on track.
CARE QUALITY COMMISSION
– MOCK AUDIT
Anne had a booklet entitled ‘A guide for Working Together’ CQC and
Patient Participation Groups. Based on this Anne had prepared a questionnaire for both patients and staff and this was presented and approved by the group and this will be used for Patient Questionnaire.
Sue confirmed that the questionnaire would provide valuable feedback from the patients. Anne also offered to come in and go through the staff questionnaire which would be a ‘mini inspection’. All this information is being collated and will be bought back to the group for finalising in the December meeting. PPG agreed to help with the distribution of questionnaires and Bev felt that by going through them with patients helping to achieve better and more useful feedback for the practice.
PPG NETWORKING
Anne went to the Wilson Street Practice in the City. She was warmly welcomed upon arrival. This group is still in its infancy and they have only had 3 or 4 meetings. They already have a PPG Notice Board.
They were telling Anne of some of the activities they have as a group.
They have a photographic competition for patients -this promotes their group within the practice and there are prizes for the winners. Anne has invited them to attend one of our meetings to enable us to form links with other PPGs and to share ideas; this was approved by the group.
ANY OTHER BUSINESS
Bob who was the groups Mystery Shopper has finished compiling his report regarding the Reception Staff and their training. He has produced documents regarding “How to be a Good Receptionist” which will be used for training purposes within the Practice. Bob came into coach staff and it was a great success. This training opened their eyes on how patients perceive them, and Bob also asked them to put themselves in the situation of how they would like to be treated when they went to their own Practice Surgery. Bob conducted several Role
Play scenarios with the Reception Staff. The feedback from the Staff was that they found it enlightening and positive. The Group thanks
Bob for his time and efforts and strategy working with the Reception
Staff.

Rita asked about appointments – length of time particularly when asking for an appointment. Sue said usually 2 weeks waiting time.
Rita said that this could encourage patients to go to A & E because they think 2 weeks is too long to wait. Sue and Dr Sood said that they ask the patient what is the nature of the appointment and then the
Surgery usually takes this into consideration and will try and get an appointment sooner. Sue said that appointments are now available for children under the age of 5 so they do not have to go through Triage will be seen that day.
