Rock Name:
Analysis and Conclusion Questions:
1. Summarize the creation of the THREE Main types of rocks. Within this summary, provide the basics behind
the processes that are both similar and different between each type of rocks.
2. A mystery rock has been found on Jupiter’s moon IO. Since geologic processes are so much different on
the mystery rock shares qualities of all types of rocks on Earth; igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary but
varies very much in color from that of earth. The rock is described as having the following characteristics:
a. Large flat flakes of a pink yet shiny mineral
b. Large chunks of a glassy and blue but crystal-like mineral
c. Surrounding these specific bit of minerals are bands of different shades of green wavy lines of
another type of rock.
 Name this mystery rock as well as provide the THREE rocks that this rock is most similar to and name the
rock directly off of these THREE rocks.
 Then, DRAW what this rock would look like and label each area of the rock that represents the three earthlike rocks.
3. DIAGRAM how a piece of granite can evolve into sandstone, quartzite and then even pumice. Draw a
detailed diagram showing what would have to happen to this rock over hundreds of thousands of years for
it to become three totally different rocks.
