Gustavo Cabrejos is a first year student at Kennesaw State University, majoring in Accounting.
He is from Newnan, GA and is active on the KSU campus in a variety of organizations and
activities including the RRPG Program for Hispanic & Latino Students.
Coming to Kennesaw State University has been an amazing experience since leaving my
hometown. Coming to a school whose population is growing every year and getting bigger in
size as we speak, I did not expect for Kennesaw to receive me with open arms. The students here
at Kennesaw State University are very welcoming and tend to do great activities in their spare
time. The environment is so friendly and makes you feel like home all over again. The dorms are
beautiful, spacious and tend to give you privacy of your own. Not only outside does it feel
welcoming but as well as the classes that we attend so early in the morning or late at night. The
professors are helpful and even though it’s our responsibility to stay focus in class, at times they
post notes online so we can review them closer. One may say that college is just about books and
studying but it’s more than that. It’s about having fun with your friends and doing activities you
wouldn’t guess you could do.
At the university, we have a place where any activity can be performed, it’s called The
Green. The Green is a big spot of grass where people can lay down and relax, or play any kind of
sports that you think of. Since meeting new people at Kennesaw and the RRPG program, playing
sports is what I mostly do in my spare time. My friends and I love to play Ultimate Frisbee when
the sun is out on the Green; we have so much space so we don’t have to bother anyone. Not only
do we play Ultimate Frisbee but we play football, and let’s not forget soccer. We try and
welcome anyone that wants to play with us, especially when we are short on players. As long as
we are all having a good time, that’s all we care for, not just competition. My friends and I tend
to go to the gym anytime we get the chance and do a bit of weights to keep in form. We may not
care what we eat at times but we surely balance it out with our workouts and our activities.
After all the exercise and hard work, we like to get together and eat at the Commons. You
never know who you are going to find in there. Sometimes we see the girls from the RRPG
program sitting with their friends, and they invite us to sit with them. The employees at the
Commons get a bit upset, because we have three tables put together and 20 people in one spot
and we forget to put the tables back. We all chat about what we did today and what we are going
to do tomorrow. We also chat about the upcoming tests, and how we forgot to study for them, or
how much work the professor gives us. Any subject can be brought up and all of us can conform
ourselves to it and have our own different opinions.
At night we like to be very adventurous and get our longboards to ride down the hills.
The adrenaline rush while riding is an indescribable feeling, it’s like you are not able to think,
and the only thing that matters is you and the moment you are living. It is absolutely incredible
to know that you are experiencing something special and especially in a university with a group
of friends. College is not just about studying and staying up all night, but about meeting new
people that will impact your life in the future.
