The Gospel for Dummies [That’s all of us!]
Romans 10:8-10; I Corinthians 15:1-5; Luke 8:16-17
God gave Jesus to the world
God lifted up Jesus as king over the world
God grants us grace to turn around and receive Jesus as our Lord [king]
God sends us the Holy Spirit, to help us hold fast to Jesus daily
Now no one after lighting a lamp covers it over with a container, or puts it under a bed; but he puts it on a lampstand,
so that those who come in may see the light. Luke 8:16
1.God lights a lamp: This lamp is Jesus, the Light of the world.
Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, “I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in darkness,
but will have the Light of life. John 8:12
2. God places this light, on the lampstand: Jesus is lifted up on the cross, in his resurrection and his ascension; as king
over the world.
“And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, I will draw all men to Myself.” John 12:32
3. Through the grace of God, we are able to see the light: To turn around [repent] and honor Jesus as our king [confess
Jesus as Lord].
…if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will
be saved. Romans 10:9
Lord and king carry similar meanings in the New Testament: The one in charge, the ultimate authority. In Jesus’ parable
of the Sower [Luke 8:14], the life of faith is choked out by other things in charge of our lives: worries, riches and
pleasures of life. There is always something that is lord [king] over our lives. Is Jesus really the one who is our priority?!



Have you seen the light?
What things do you put ahead of Jesus in your life?
In what ways have you experienced the grace of God?
For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God. Ephesians 2:8
4. We desperately need the Holy Spirit to strengthen our faith daily: So we may hold fast to Jesus and walk in the
Light. We must hold fast the good news with our whole being [our heart]! The Christian life is a marathon, not a sprint!
But the seed in the good soil, these are the ones who have heard the word in an honest and good heart, and hold it
fast…. Luke 8:15



What do you do during the week to help you hold fast to Jesus?
What helps you hold fast to Jesus on weekends?
Do you believe you are walking in the Light of Jesus?

God lights the Lamp [Jesus]
God lifts up this Lamp on the lampstand [cross, resurrection, ascension]
God grants us grace to see the Light [To turn around to follow the King and be saved]
God gives us more: The Holy Spirit to help us hold fast and walk in his Light
