THE DAILY ASHINGTON Our Week at a Glance 9/8-11 /2015 This week we will be learning about journaling. I want each Cougar to learn, understand and begin to create meaningful journal entries. We will be journaling everyday this school year and I cannot wait to read what your champion write. Big Idea: How does water move from Earth to the air and back again? Students will learn that most of Earth’s water is present as salt water in the ocean’s which cover most of Earth’s surface. Essential Questions: Where is most of Earth’s water found? How does salt water become fresh water again? Where does water go when it evaporates? How do clouds form? Science Quiz: Friday (10 questions) In 1754, where did the first battle that led to the beginning of the French and Indian War take place? Who led the Virginians in the first battle of the French and Indian War? Social Studies Quiz: Friday (10 questions) Student will learn about how to change written expression into a numerical expression. They will learn about expressions that record calculations with numbers and interpret numerical expressions. Essential questions What are verbal expressions and written expressions? What strategies can I use to write simple expressions to represent a real world problem? What are the order of operations for evaluating expressions? We will also be beginning to learn about Khan Academy, Jiji and front row. These are online tools that will help them throughout their school year with their fifth grade math standards and objectives. Math Quiz: Friday (10 questions) This week students will learn about how the French and Indian War allowed Britain to obtain all French lands east of the Mississippi as well as Florida and Spain.
