Top tips for filling in the form
Please read the tips below in addition to the detailed Application Guidance Notes which describe
Charles de Gaulle objectives and selection criteria.
Key consideration – Why work with a French/UK school or college? What makes your project relevant
specifically in an Anglo-French context? The bi-lateral nature of the Charles de Gaulle programme should
be reflected in your project and chosen theme(s).
Activities and visit plans must:








be joint and bilateral (UK-France) as non-collaborative activities and visits cannot be funded
have the support of the heads / Principals of both schools and colleges and be relevant to the
school or college plan
be linked to the relevant course curriculum or qualification specifications in both countries and
actively involve young people in meaningful thematic dialogue or activity, which
o includes an element of interactive discussion, debate, joint reflection
o has a clear UK-France dimension and added value
show true interaction between the young people of the UK and France
have a strong wider impact on supporting improved teaching practice in both schools or colleges
contribute to the overall learning of students directly as well as indirectly involved in the project
demonstrate a commitment to future contact and collaboration between partner schools or colleges
support student employability skills and engagement with employers.
Applications must be filled in as a joint endeavour by both schools or colleges. One form only is required
for submission (in English or in French). Ideally one project lead will submit the application on behalf of the
partnership but it is essential that both head teachers / Principals from UK and French schools and
colleges sign the application form giving full support to the collaborative project between the partner
schools and colleges. French schools and colleges must inform their DAREIC of their application.

Part 2: Objectives of your partnership project
Your partnership project and application for funding will be assessed against 3 main objectives:
1. How your project supports or develops the relevant course curriculum in your school or
college and enhances employability (the panel will be looking for evidence of the specific way in
which your project is linked to course curriculum objectives or qualification specification, whether it
is strategically linked to the school or college plan and in what way)
2. How your project enhances student learning outcomes and improves course delivery (the
panel will be looking for a clear demonstration of how each of the different activities proposed in
the project are designed to enhance student knowledge, skills and competencies; and also to
support improved course delivery through enhancing pedagogy, updating or expanding teacher /
trainer knowledge or skills, or developing the relevance of the curriculum or course content to
employer needs and an international context.)
3. How you and your partner school or college will continue to collaborate and sustain project
results into the future (the panel will be looking to see evidence of mechanisms put in place to
support collaborative working as well as articulated measures to ensure sustainability of the
partnership after the funding year)
4. How your poject supports student employability skills as well as engagement with
employers (the panel will be looking to see evidence of specific links with employers and for a
demonstration of how the project will enhance skills and attributes valued by employers, including
intercultural communication skills. The panel will also look for indicators of how the project will
update teachers’ and students’ industry knowledge and skills)
You will find detailed information on these objectives in the Application Guidance Notes
Objective 1: Is your project supporting or developing course curriculum?
What areas of the chosen course curriculum or school / college plan does your partnership aim
to support? Please explain the strategic reasons for carrying out your collaborative project.
Tips: the panel will be looking to see evidence of the ways in which your project is strategically
relevant to both partner schools / colleges. Please specify the areas of the chosen course
curriculum your project will support, and why this is important for you both. Do you and your
partner school / college want to achieve exactly the same thing or have you agreed to help each
other to achieve different things?

What will you and teachers from your partner schools / colleges learn from each other? What
will you do together? Please specify expected results in relation to the different areas of the
curriculum involved.
Tips: the panel will be looking to see evidence of what aspects of student’s learning you and
your partner school / college have chosen to enhance and how this will be achieved through
the different activities and visit plans. You can include statistical data, reports or extracts from
your school / college plan to support the specific aims of your project

and sustain project results into the future
Describe what mechanisms you and your partner school / college have in place to ensure a
sustainable collaboration? What project results do you intend to continue and develop into the
future? What are your planned actions?
Tips: the panel will be looking to see evidence that partner schools / colleges have a strong

Part 4: Visit plans
Organising reciprocal visits is challenging and demanding. You will need to give sufficient time to
discussing and planning the visits with your partner school or college. In addition to content, be careful to
discuss and agree date options and accommodation options well in advance. Visits to France/the UK must
include at least eight full days spent with your partner excluding travel. Please ensure that plans are
carefully divided between time that students and teachers spend together in the partner school or college
or workplace, and time spent on collaborative activities outside school and college. All visits must relate to
your project work.
Charles de Gaulle grant funding cannot be used to visit random tourist attractions. Visits should
include engagement with an employer, and can also include visits to relevant places of interest
that are perfectly in line with your project, Visits must be planned as an extension of the learning
in school or college, and play an integral role in the project with defined learning outcomes.
The journey time to visit your partner school or college is not part of the eight days.
You will find very useful practical guidance for organising the logistics of visits in the School Exchange
starter pack
