Key consideration – Why work with a French/UK school or college? What makes your project relevant specifically in an Anglo-French context? The bi-lateral nature of the Charles de Gaulle programme should be reflected in your project and chosen theme(s). Activities and visit plans must: be joint and bilateral (UK-France) as non-collaborative activities and visits cannot be funded have the support of the heads / Principals of both schools and colleges and be relevant to the school or college plan be linked to the relevant course curriculum or qualification specifications in both countries and actively involve young people in meaningful thematic dialogue or activity, which o includes an element of interactive discussion, debate, joint reflection o has a clear UK-France dimension and added value show true interaction between the young people of the UK and France have a strong wider impact on supporting improved teaching practice in both schools or colleges contribute to the overall learning of students directly as well as indirectly involved in the project demonstrate a commitment to future contact and collaboration between partner schools or colleges support student employability skills and engagement with employers. Applications must be filled in as a joint endeavour by both schools or colleges. One form only is required for submission (in English or in French). How your project supports or develops the relevant course curriculum in your school or college and enhances employability (the panel will be looking for evidence of the specific way in which your project is linked to course curriculum objectives or qualification specification, whether it is strategically linked to the school or college plan and in what way) 2. How your project enhances student learning outcomes and improves course delivery (the panel will be looking for a clear demonstration of how each of the different activities proposed in the project are designed to enhance student knowledge, skills and competencies; and also to support improved course delivery through enhancing pedagogy, updating or expanding teacher / trainer knowledge or skills, or developing the relevance of the curriculum or course content to employer needs and an international context.) 3. How you and your partner school or college will continue to collaborate and sustain project results into the future (the panel will be looking to see evidence of mechanisms put in place to support collaborative working as well as articulated measures to ensure sustainability of the partnership after the funding year) 4. How your poject supports student employability skills as well as engagement with employers (the panel will be looking to see evidence of specific links with employers and for a demonstration of how the project will enhance skills and attributes valued by employers, including intercultural communication skills. Tips: the panel will be looking to see evidence of what aspects of student’s learning you and your partner school / college have chosen to enhance and how this will be achieved through the different activities and visit plans. Tips: the panel will be looking to see evidence that partner schools / colleges have a strong relationship. Evidence of a communication plan, strategies to overcome unexpected difficulties, to seize opportunities and navigate constraints will be important to demonstrate that both schools / colleges are committed to the project now and in the future. 8 British Council – Charles de Gaulle Trust Grant application form 9 Objective 4: How will your project support student employability skills as well as engagement with employers Describe how your project will work with employers to provide opportunity for teachers and students to gain insight into the world of work and develop up-to-date knowledge and skills that employers need. Explain how the project as a whole will support student employability skills, such as: communication skills, intercultural relationship building and team-working and critical thinking; and attributes such as: independence and creativity. Tips: the panel will be looking to see evidence that partner schools / colleges have links with employers and understanding of how to use these to the benefit of teachers and students. Think about demonstrating the strength of teacher involvement from across the different subject areas or faculties to enhance the employability skills of students. 9 British Council – Charles de Gaulle Trust Grant application form 10 Part 3: Activity plan When writing your activity plan please demonstrate how each of the different activities proposed in the project are designed to improve student learning outcomes and also support improved course delivery and wider employability and core skills. In a good activity plan each activity will be specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time-bound (SMART). For advice on how to fill out your activity plan and visit plan, please refer to the Charles de Gaulle Application Guidance Notes Please list activities chronologically indicating pre-visit activities and post-visit activities. Educators: Month: Part 4: Visit plans Organising reciprocal visits is challenging and demanding. You will need to give sufficient time to discussing and planning the visits with your partner school or college. In addition to content, be careful to discuss and agree date options and accommodation options well in advance. Visits to France/the UK must include at least eight full days spent with your partner excluding travel. Please ensure that plans are carefully divided between time that students and teachers spend together in the partner school or college or workplace, and time spent on collaborative activities outside school and college. All visits must relate to your project work. Charles de Gaulle grant funding cannot be used to visit random tourist attractions. Visits should include engagement with an employer, and can also include visits to relevant places of interest that are perfectly in line with your project, Visits must be planned as an extension of the learning in school or college, and play an integral role in the project with defined learning outcomes. The journey time to visit your partner school or college is not part of the eight days. Eligible costs are indicated below. Please note that the maximum grant funded under Charles de Gaulle is up to max £5,000 per school or college. In some cases it is possible for partner schools and colleges to find additional sources of funding to add to the Charles de Gaulle grant eg. if they wish to increase the number of pupils or the length of the visit. This is at the discretion of partner schools and colleges. At the halfway point we will ask you to submit a one page progress report. When both visits have taken place you may then apply to receive the remaining 20% of your grant payment. You will be required to demonstrate the success of your project against the same 3 key objectives as in the initial application before this payment will be authorised. How do you plan to monitor the impact of your partnership activities in relation to 1) embedding the curriculum 2) enhancing student learning outcomes and improved course delivery 3) collaboration and sustainability the partnership as a whole 4) supporting employability skills as well as employer engagement?
