64th Commencement
June 1, 2013
General Information
Only students who have requested to have their academic record reviewed via the
Graduation/Commencement Participation link on the BCCC Student Portal and paid the
Commencement Participation fee of $25 by May 22, 2013 at 7 p.m., will be permitted to
participate in commencement ceremony.
The commencement ceremony for all degree and certificate candidates will be held:
Saturday, June 1, 2013 at 10 a.m. at the
Patricia and Arthur Modell Performing Arts Center at the Lyric
140 W. Mount Royal Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21201
Each graduate will receive 5 tickets for their guests.
(Tickets are required for admission. No EXCEPTIONS!)
Graduates must arrive by 8 a.m. and enter the Lyric at the Maryland Avenue Lower Level
Backstage entrance. Staff and President’s VIP guest must enter at the Administrative Box
Office Door on the West Mount Royal Ave entrance. All other guest will enter at the Main
Entrance on West Mount Royal Avenue. Guest will not be admitted into the Lyric until 9am.
Procession
The Procession will begin:
 At 9:45 a.m.
 Students cannot be placed in line after the Procession begins.
The Procession will form in the following order:
 Candidates for degrees and certificates should assemble in the lower lobby area.
Students will be placed in alphabetical order consistent with the academic departments.

Faculty and staff should assemble in the upper level lobby area. Look for the
division/school flags.

Stage guest should assemble at the President’s Reception area in the Reception Hall on
the 3rd floor.

Commencement Day Schedule
When and Where to Assemble (for students only)
Please arrive at:
 The Patricia and Arthur Modell Performing Arts Center at the Lyric at 8 a.m.
 Bring your cap and gown
(You may not participate in the commencement ceremony without a cap and
gown).
 Wear your tassel on the right front side of the cap (shift it to left after your degree is
conferred).
 Get an index card, bearing your name, curriculum and honors status from the Marshal
assigned to your program.
Since you will be crossing the stage to receive your degree/certificate cover as your name is
called, it is important that you have the index card bearing your name and curriculum with you.
You will pass it to a reader as you approach the stage. Marshals will assist you in the lineup.
Photos and Regalia
*Professional photographers will be available to photograph you in your cap and gown during
the commencement ceremony. The cost of the photo package will be available at the Lyric.
Professional photographers will capture the moment of each graduate being presented a
degree/certificate cover by the President and a member of the Board of Trustees.
If friends and family desire to take photos, because of the number of graduates, we ask for their
cooperation. Due to the importance of ALL being able to see the stage, please do not come
down to the floor. Take photos from your seating area and quickly return to your seat. We must
maintain orderliness so that ALL have the best opportunity to obtain the picture they desire as
well as assuring a clear view of the stage throughout the commencement ceremony.
*Northeast Photo Network-Photography will be on campus Wednesday, May 29, 2013,
12 – 7 p.m. in the Mini-Conference Center to take professional photos of graduates in
their regalia. Should students wish to purchase a copy of this photograph, they should
contact Northeast Photo Network at 410-789-6001 or 1-800-929-7427. Remember you
want to look your best.
Caps and Gowns
Caps, gowns, hoods or collars are issued May 22 – May 24 and May 29 in the Mini Conference
Center, Fine Arts Wing on the Liberty Campus. See schedule on page 1.
Please make arrangements to obtain your regalia in advance in order to have time to iron the
gown and make any size adjustments. Cap and gowns will be distributed to students who
paid $25 graduation/commencement participation fee by May 22, 2013 at 7 p.m. and have
satisfied all outstanding obligations to the College. No caps and gowns will be
distributed after Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at 7 p.m. Students may not participate in the
commencement ceremony without a cap and gown.

Faculty and staff must lease regalia through the bookstore or provide their own.
Only those students who applied for the degree receive hoods. Only women who applied for a
certificate are provided with white collars to wear with their gowns. Students are permitted to
keep their cap, gown, hood or collar, and tassel.
Robing
Student, faculty and staff robing takes place in the second floor Rehearsal Hall. There is no
provision for securing personal items. Valuables, handbags or additional clothing should not be
brought to the Lyric
Directions
From the North and Northwest:
Take 1 - 83 South (Jones Falls Expressway) to Exit 5, Maryland Avenue. Go straight through
the traffic light to the second street (Mount Royal Avenue). The Lyric is on the left and the Bolton
Yards Parking Lot is on the right.
From Washington:
Via Interstate 95 - north to Baltimore: As you approach downtown, you will see I - 395. Take I 395 toward the Inner Harbor/Downtown. Stay on your left. The second traffic light will be Pratt
Street. Make a right on to Pratt. Take Pratt to Charles Street and make a left. Follow Charles
about 20 blocks until Mount Royal Avenue. Make a left on to Mount Royal and the Lyric is one
block down on your right.
Via 295 Baltimore Washington Parkway: As you approach downtown, you will see
I - 395. Take I - 395 toward the Inner Harbor/Downtown. Stay on your left. The second traffic
light will be Pratt Street. Make a right on to Pratt. Take Pratt to Charles Street and make a left.
Follow Charles about 20 blocks until Mount Royal Avenue. Make a left on to Mount Royal and
the Lyric is one block down on your right.
Parking
Limited street parking is available. Be careful of any signs indicating illegal parking as many
spaces are for truck unloading only or must be cleared between 4 PM and 6 PM for commute
periods. The Fitzgerald Parking garage is now open, located at the corner of Mt. Royal Avenue
and Oliver Street just across from the theatre, is available for patrons.
Mass Transportation
The University of Baltimore/Mount Royal Light Rail Station is located almost directly across from
the Lyric. For more information, please contact the Mass Transit Administration at 410-5395000.
Baltimore's Penn Station is two blocks northeast of the Lyric. Daily service between
Washington's Union Station and Baltimore on both MARC and AMTRAK is available. For more
information, please call 1-800-USA-RAIL.

Parking at the Modell PAC/Lyric
Parking is available at the Fitzgerald Garage on Oliver Street (between Mt. Royal Avenue and
Maryland Avenue), The Garage is a block north of the Modell/Lyric.
Parking for some events is also available at the Cathedral Street Garage (located a block south
of the theatre). The Symphony Center Garage, adjacent to Park Avenue (about two blocks
south of the theatre) is also available.
Additional Information and Services
Guest Seating
Seating is reserved in the first both section of seating on the right side of the Lyric for the
President’s guests only. Parents and guests should arrive early to avoid traffic congestion and
to obtain seating of their choice. Tickets are required for admission (No Exceptions)!
(The Lyric seats approximately 2,500 people)
Disability Services
Baltimore City Community College makes every effort to accommodate individuals with
disabilities. Students and/or Guests who need special accommodations should contact the
campus Disability Support Services Center 410-462-8585 or DSSC@bccc.edu) within 14
working days prior to attending a scheduled event. ASL interpreter requests may be made by
emailing DSSC@bccc.edu at least four weeks prior to attending a scheduled event.
Honors Program Regalia
Honors regalia will be distributed to those students who are current participants in BCCC
Honors Programs. Members of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society wear a gold stole and tassel.
Members of the William Donald Schaefer Honors Program wear a red stole. Granville T. Woods
Scholars will wear a forest green stole and Reginald F. Lewis Scholars will wear a royal blue
stole.
Honors Status
If a student has an honors status, their status will be announced with their name. The honors
status categories are:


High Honors = Overall GPA of 3.75 and above
Honors = Overall GPA of 3.25 to 3.749
Honors designations are those known as of the end of the Fall 2011 semester. Additional
honors may be announced during the Commencement Ceremony. Honors status will be
recognized on your diploma. (see Honors Program Regalia above)
Diplomas
Diplomas can be picked up on Tuesday, June 4 between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. in Main Building,
Room 07H if:
 Grades have been received and processed by the Office of Registration and Records.
 All financial obligations have been satisfied.

Diplomas will be mailed if not picked up by Tuesday, June 4. Please be sure your future mailing
address is updated on the BCCC Student Portal or with the Office of Registration and Records,

Helpful Tips
 Before the ceremony, make arrangements with your family and friends to determine
where you will meet at the conclusion.
 During the procession and ceremony, all guests should remain in their seats to keep the
aisles clear and no one will be admitted into the Lyric until the procession is completed.
Students must be in cap and gown to process.
 The Lyric must be vacated immediately following the ceremony.
