Mathematics Department
Mathematics at the school is taught by a team of ten experienced teachers, who are specialists in
mathematics.
Mathematics in the curriculum
Currently the pupils in year 7 are not setted, although this is under review. From Year 8 upwards, all
pupils are setted by ability in mathematics. The top set in Year 10 sit the Edexcel IGCSE a year early, and
then proceed to study the OCR Additional Maths course in Year 11. All other pupils sit the Edexcel
IGCSE at the end of Year 11.
In the Sixth form, two mathematics courses are offered. In Lower 6 AS Mathematics and followed by A2
Mathematics in the Upper 6; alternatively, A2 Mathematics in the Lower 6 followed by A2 Further
Mathematics in the Upper 6. The numbers of pupils studying Maths and Further Maths are very strong: in
the Upper 6, 41 pupils are studying A2 Maths, and 20 pupils are studying Further Maths. In the Lower 6,
54 are studying AS Maths, and 28 are studying A2 Maths. Results in the maths department are very
strong. We follow the OCR Specification for Mathematics in the Sixth Form.
Mathematics is taught in the historic Bishop’s Palace in 8 teaching rooms, all equipped with computers
and projectors. Two of the teaching rooms also have interactive whiteboards/projectors. The nearby
computer room is equipped with 24 computers, giving pupils access to interactive learning.
Course books:
In years 7, 8 and 9 we currently use the MEP scheme of work and follow their text books, and in years 10
and 11, we use the Edexcel IGCSE books. In the Sixth form the OCR textbooks are used for each module.

A letter of application, completed application form and curriculum vitae should be received by the Head
Master by midday on Thursday 13 February. The short-listed candidates will be invited to attend an
interview on Tuesday 25 February. This will include teaching a lesson.
