$38,790-$50,431 / $42,960-$55,844
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is under the general supervision of another Biologist (Intermediate or Senior
Biologist). The Biologist will be responsible for implementation of wildlife related investigations.
Provides technical support and assistance to other professional wildlife biology personnel
engaged in scientific and technical work in the wildlife biology field. Biologist’s duties will
include fieldwork as well as office work.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (This position may include the following):
1. Assist Senior Wildlife biologist in providing field coordination and guidance for habitat and
biological survey crews, trapping projects, research projects and other wildlife related field
activities.
2. Under the guidelines of habitat assessment and biological survey methodologies, leads field
crews collecting and compiling data.
3. Includes training, coordination, and supervision of field crews conducting wildlife survey
and monitoring activities.
4. Conduct literature research, compile and analyze collected field data. Use collected field
data to perform analyses and create written data summaries and final reports.
5. Operates computers and standard software to create necessary reports, analyses,
correspondence, and data base management as needed.
6. Operates and maintains boats, motors, traps and other wildlife equipment, as well as
passenger vehicles and light trucks.
7. May be assigned other duties as required to meet the needs of the organization.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This is a supervisory position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of life history, biology, and habitat requirements of threatened species in
the Klamath Basin region (American marten, fisher, spotted owl, marbled murrelet,
snowy plover), species of specific interest to the Tribe (elk, black-tailed deer, black bear,
pileated woodpecker, etc.), some knowledge of herpetological species of concern
(foothill yellow-legged frog and western pond turtle), and some knowledge of historical
restoration activities related to the California Condor.

Knowledge of and experience in conducting basic wildlife surveys, including habitat
mapping, transect surveys, trapping, and direct observation surveys.
Ability to supervise field crews in an organized, productive manner and providing data
quality control while maintaining a positive and safe work environment.
Practical knowledge of record keeping, data storage and accumulation, data recall,
organization and presentation.
Skill in presenting data and its analysis, discussions and recommendations in a form
requiring a minimum of review and editing.
Ability to organize and implement sound plans, procedures and schedules.
Skill in writing and oral expression.
Familiarity with computers, including prior experience using word processing, database,
presentation, and spreadsheet programs. Experience with GIS and statistical software is
preferred.
Ability to swim.
Ability to demonstrate originality and good judgment in adapting accepted practices and
procedures required to accomplish specific tasks under changing or unexpected
circumstances.
Experience with firearms and knowledge of lead and non-lead ammunition efficacy.
Willing to commit to extended fieldwork weeks and travel to remote sampling locations
(potential for negotiated exceptions).
Valid state issued driver’s license and/or the ability to obtain a California or Oregon
driver’s license. Must be insurable on the Tribe’s insurance policy.
Must be able and willing to work cooperatively and productively with other tribal
wildlife groups and agencies.
Knowledge of the use of firearms and their application in hunting large terrestrial game.

EDUCATION EXPERIENCE:
Grade 7: Bachelor’s degree in Wildlife Biology, Biological Sciences, Natural Resource
Management or closely related field.
Or
Combination of education equal to four years, with at least two years of college in Wildlife
Biology, Biological Sciences, Natural Resources or a closely related field and applicable work
experience which has provided training in the application of techniques and processes in the
wildlife biological area (harvest monitoring, population management, habitat and biological
surveys, etc.). At least one year of experience must be directly related to the wildlife
management field.
Grade 8: Bachelor’s degree in Wildlife Biology, Biological Sciences, Natural Resource
Management or closely related field and three years of experience with progressively increasing
responsibility in the field of wildlife management.

Combination of education equal to four years, with at least two years of college in Wildlife
Biology, Biological Sciences, Natural Resources or a closely related field, and three years of
experience which has provided training in the application of techniques and processes in the
wildlife biological area (harvest monitoring, population management, habitat and biological
surveys, etc.). At least two years of experience must be directly related to progressively
increasing responsibility in the field of wildlife management.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Must have the ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, short
correspondence, and memos. With ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and
small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Knowledge of the Yurok language is preferred but not required.
REASONING ABILITY:
Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral and/or
diagram form. With ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in
standardized situations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, stand and
use hands to, handle, or feel. Requires recurring physical exertion such as walking over wet,
rough, uneven or rocky terrain; swimming for long periods, at times in adverse conditions; work
under highly variable environmental conditions; and other physical duties associated with
wildlife field activities. The employee is occasionally required to sit, reach with hands and arms,
climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk and hear. The employee must occasionally
lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
VISION REQUIREMENTS:
 Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less).
 Color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors).
 Depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial
relationships).
