July 2015
Autumn term
Indigo2 trip
The first day of term will be Thursday
3rd September 2015
On the evening of Thursday 9th July pupils in Key Stage 2
attended a concert at the O2. The opportunity was given to
us by the ‘Charlton Athletic community Trust’ after they had
heard one of our pupil’s sing at the ‘One goal’ launch. Zuriel,
who is a pupil in year 6 agreed to sing at the event and
impressed the organisers so much that he was asked to
perform with Rixton at the concert.
Summer Fair
A very successful Summer Fair was
held after school on Thursday 3rd July.
There were a range of stalls including
face painting, bouncy castles, pedal
karts, splat the rat, spin the wheel,
tombola and spin the wheel. As always
the food and drink stall also proved to
be very popular!
There were some impressive
performances in the arena from some
of the pupils who attend Band, Ballet,
Zumba and Taekwon-Do clubs
We would like to give a massive thank
you to the following companies for
their generous donations to the raffle.
Asda Charlton, The Cornerstone Café,
London Stone properties, WH Smith,
Poundland, London Big Bus tour,
Wilkinsons, Argos, JD Sports, Boots
Charlton, The River Roamer, Very and
The Brooklyn Bowl
We would also like to thank ‘Charlton
Athletic Community Trust’ for lending
us their inflatable football goal for the
penalty shoot-out.
With five coaches travelling from the school and over 360
tickets being handed out to pupils, family and friends of the
school it was an amazing atmosphere with children and staff
had an amazing evening. A big thank you goes to all the
adults who helped the occasion to be a big success.
Zuriel has been performing as
Michael Jackson in ‘Thriller Live’ at
the West End for two months
already and year 6 pupils have
been to watch his inspirational
performance. We wish him luck as
he goes on the European tour with
the ‘Thriller Live’ cast over the
Summer.
Charlton Athletic Stadium visit
On Thursday 11th June we were invited to the ‘One goal’
launch at the Charlton Athletic Stadium. ‘One goal’ involves
children and young people from across London, with an aim
of using sport to motivate, inspire and involve young people
for the better. The children represented the school brilliantly
and were complemented on their excellent behaviour.

French trip
National Schools Sports week(s)
Year 6 had a memorable
weekend trip to France.
Whilst there they visited the
Eiffel Tower, went along the
River Seine and bought
produce at a traditional
market. Whilst at the
residential centre pupils
were able to go swimming
in the outdoor pool and
went along a zip wire!
done to everyone involved
in organising the trip.
Between Monday 15th June and Friday 26th June Cardwell
took part in a range of sporting activities.
t
Well
There have been a lot of inspirational
and memorable trips across the school
this half term. These have included:
Lullingstone Roman Villa, Greenwich
Park, the Thames Clipper and Kent Life.
Performances
Years 1 - 5 did an end of year
performance entitled ‘Through the
Decades’.
Year 2 did the 1960s, Year 3 did the
1970s, Year 5 did the 1980s, Year 4 did
the 1990s and Year 1 did the 2000s.
Modern day performances were then
done by our extra-curricular clubs. The
performance finished with an emotive
performance by the school choir. The
standard of performance was very good
and the children really enjoyed showing
their talents.
On Monday 13th July Year 6 did a
performance entitled Summer Nights.
The performance was very professionally
done. Well done to everyone involved
both on stage and behind stage.
Key Stage 2 had their Sports Day at the Woolwich
Barracks. This was the first time we had held the event
here and it proved to be a successful and memorable
successful. A highlight of the event was the house colour
relay where all pupils were cheering on their house colour.
Key Stage 1 and Foundation Stage had their Sports Days
in the bottom playground. Both events were very
enjoyable and the children deserve a special well done for
really trying their best at all the events. Both events
finished with a ‘very competitive’ parents bean bag on the
head race.
On Tuesday 16th and Wednesday 17th June Key Stage 2
children had the chance to play wheelchair basketball, as
well as this on Tuesday 16th June we had a visit from
Andy Barrow (Olympic Paralympian) who gave an
inspirational assembly and played Wheelchair Basketball
with pupils and staff in the bottom playground.
On Wednesday 17th June Tobi Alabi came in and did a
thought-provoking assembly and then Year 6 took part in
CPR and football workshops.
On Tuesday 23rd June, Key Stage 2 children have the
chance to take part in a whole school ‘Four Square’
tournament. The purpose of the tournament will be to
raise money to improve our school playground and to help
the charity ‘CRY’.
On Wednesday 24th June Years 3 and 4 took part in the
Greenwich Sportathon at Sutcliffe Park. This is an
athletics event that involves all the primary schools in the
borough. The children deserve a big well done to the
massive effort they made in every event.
On Thursday 18th June we organised a football
tournament at Sparrows Lane for us and 11 other primary
schools in the borough. The tournament was a big
success and we are planning to hold a similar
tournament next year.
