INDIVIDUAL ARTISTS’ BURSARY SUPPORT 2016
Applications are invited by the Arts Office for the 2016 Individual Artist Bursary awards. This fund
supports individual artists. The maximum grant which may be applied for is €5,000. Applications must
be in respect of the professional development of individual practicing artists, arts administrators, and/
or arts and cultural theorists.
Cork City Council’s Arts and Cultural strategy 2011-2015, which is available to download on our
website www.corkcity.ie, outlines the policies and strategies of Cork City Council for the development
of the Arts Sector. Grant aid is distributed in accordance with these policies and strategies.
This grant addresses our strategic aim to promote and coordinate local, national and international
networks and agencies to market, publicise and profile Cork City and its artists, in collaboration with
our partners.
Grant assistance will be awarded only where applications meet the criteria set down by Cork City
Council. Please note that Cork City Council reserves its right to add to or to reduce the number and
value of awards it may make.

Further educational or training opportunities.

Development opportunities in other countries.

Opportunities to be professionally mentored.

Opportunities to facilitate a significant shift in direction of work.
All applications are assessed by an independent peer panel from the arts sector.
Applicants must complete all sections of the form. All questions must be answered even if it is to
state that the question is not relevant.

ARTISTIC

Artistic ambition and excellence.

Quality of artistic samples.

Quality of proposed artistic encounter.

Potential impact on individual’s artistic development.
STRATEGIC

National and international relevance.
OPERATIONAL

Documentary evidence regarding planned encounter (e.g. acceptance from symposium,
contract with mentor) if relevant.

Encounter must take place within the year of application.

Quality of plans for documentation and feedback to Cork City Council.

You must adhere to the branding and acknowledgment requirements of Cork City.
The application form may be typed or hand-written. Please complete in block capitals using additional

FREEDOM OF INFORMATION

Cork City Council undertakes to use its best endeavours to hold confidential any information provided
by applicants subject to its obligations under law, including the Freedom of Information Act 1998 and
2003. Applicants are requested to consider if any of the information supplied should not be disclosed
because of its sensitivity. If this is the case, candidates should, when providing the information,
identify same and specify the reasons for its sensitivity. If such information is not identified as
sensitive and Cork City Council upon consideration does not deem it sensitive, then such information
is liable to be released in response to a Freedom of Information request without further consultation
with the applicants. Cork City Council will consult with any candidates about sensitive information
before making a decision on any Freedom of Information Act request received.

Good quality examples of your work that demonstrate your practice to date -depending on the
media used in your practice the following should be used as a guide.
 10 good quality still images, including detailed images or installation shots for installation work
 3 excerpts of 3 minutes for moving image work/Film
 Good quality recordings of compositions or performances which illustrate the applicants artistic
practice and track record to date;
 For composers who routinely produce scores as part of their practice, a maximum of three
scores of compositions completed or previously published (submitted in hard copy);
 Up to 3 examples (in electronic format) of recent catalogues, monographs or relevant
publications.
 All still and moving images should be clearly labelled with a brief description of the work;
If you require return of any supporting material please specify and include a stamped address
envelope.

RECEIPT OF APPLICATIONS
Your application will be acknowledged by email within two weeks of receipt. Decisions on the
application will be issued within ten weeks of application.
Recipients of Bursary will receive monies in 2 instalments. 75% will be paid on receipt of an
acceptance letter. The remaining 25% will be provided on receipt of a full report on the activity in
respect of which funding has been sought and evidence of expenditure.
