Communication skills and literacy in English are the primary objectives. Students are assessed for English proficiency levels and assigned to the appropriate level of class. Classes are Monday – Thursday, 6:30 – 8:30 GED Preparation/ The GED (General Education Program) program provides the opportunity for students to complete formal high school requirements and to achieve a State of Florida high school diploma. The GED preparatory classes include four areas of study: Reasoning through Language, Social Studies, Science, Mathematical Reasoning. Classes are Monday – Thursday, 6:30 – 8:30. Credit Lab/ E2020 classes are designed as individualized courses, enabling students to work independently at their own speed. Credit classes, with the approval of the guidance department, may be used as a means to raise a student’s grade point average for graduation. Students are able to forgive D’s and earn credit for F’s. ARTS & CRAFTS Pottery/Open Studio This course focuses on basic hand building techniques with an emphasis on open studio. The experience level will vary from student to student so skill level will determine the objectives for each student. The course will cover pinch, coil, slab and basic sculpture techniques. Limited space. Adults only. Stain Glass/This course will help you develop the basic skills necessary for creating your own stain glass pieces. The course will cover cutting techniques, creating copper foil panels, color, types of glass and how glass is made. Certain tools are required for this course, which will be discussed in class. Bring notebook and pen. Knitting/learn the basics of knitting, all levels welcome. Material list provided. Quilting/This course will cover all the basics of quilting and quilt design, including selecting fabric, rotary cutting, piecing, pressing, final quilting and binding. Each student will create a wall hanging size design in fabrics/colors of their choice exploring six basic patterns. Please be prepared with your fabrics for first day. Material list provided. Film Photography & Darkroom/This course will cover photography technique and composition using 35MM film camera. It also covers how to use the darkroom. The goal is to produce a series of final projects. Drawing And Visual Theory/ This course teaches a less traditional form of drawing and illustration. The skills given in this class will allow you to become a master of technique, should you choose, however, this class offers more than that – it offers you the ability to expand on your own artistry, perspective and visual awareness. This course integrates drawing with our experience of the world around us in a creative way and encourages you to express yourself during the process. Painting Acrylic/This class is designed for students at all levels. In this course students will learn the importance of looking at a subject matter and transferring what they see to the canvas. We will learn the importance of color and color mixing. COMPUTERS Photoshop CS6/Intro Photoshop is truly the 800 lb Gorilla of the graphics world, and can be overwhelming for the first time user. We start at the beginning, even if you have no Photoshop experience, and walk you through the basics. It is recommended however, that you have a basic understanding of computing and your operation system. (Window/Mac) The beginnings topics I cover include The Work Area, Tools, Navigating, Using the Bridge, Making selections, Layer Basics, Layer Styles Resolution, Resizing, File Size, Image Adjustments & Basic Photo Corrections. A+Certification/ This class will prepare the serious minded individual who is interested in becoming certified to become a technician, or knowing how to perform the basic hardware and software upgrades on their own computer. This class will explain the ins and outs of the hardware and software portions of the PC computer, discussing different operating systems, including the advantages and disadvantages. Certification testing is done at CompTia Testing facility. Keyboarding / Keyboarding skills are needed in virtually every career. This course is designed for the student wanting to learn how to type without looking at the keyboard. To build and ensure mastery and a strong foundation in keyboarding skills is learned through hands on practice, along with building speed and accuracy. Adults only. IPAD!! There’s an APP for that!!/ This interactive class is designed for the IPAD novices. Topics will include basic operation of the IPAD, functions& capabilities, downloading and using apps (ITunes, I Books, Kindle, etc) and more. Students must bring their own IPAD. Adults only. Excel Prep review/this course is designed for students interested in preparing for the Industry Certification Exam in Excel. Certification is becoming more and more popular and in demand by many employers in the Industry today. Students will be using practice software as part of this course. A certified instructor and trained proctor will offer test taking strategies that will help students successfully take and pass the Excel Certification Exam. NOTE: Upon completion of this class students will be offered but NOT required to take the Exam. Students interested will sign up and pay additional fees. This class is not for beginners but for those students with an in depth knowledge of the software in need of review and/or hands test taking practice with the goal in becoming Industry Certified. Basic Computers/This class offers the beginner an opportunity to learn basic computer concepts, covering mouse skills, and navigating Windows Explorer. FITNESS/SPORTS Golf / This course will cover putting, chipping fundamentals, introduction to pitching, introduction to full swing short and mid irons & or wedge. Introduction to full swing mid irons and fairwoods, full swing woods and driver and how to play the game. Including, stretching exercises, score keeping, safety procedures and proper etiquette. Teens to Adults. Boot Camp/ This class is a combination of Military style exercises, running, and interval training along with jogging, sprinting, pylometric, push-ups, squats and lunges. Meets twice a week. Please bring water/mat. Meets on the football field and Center courtyard. Weight Training for Women- Circuit training, weights/ Cardio. Meets twice a week. Martial Arts for kids/ (7- 15) this course is a combination of Karate, Kung Fu and Jujitsu. It teaches power, control flow of movement, grace & techniques. It teaches close combat & self-defense techniques. It also teaches self-control awareness and self-discipline. Also different forms (KATA) for each level of belts you move up. Adult & Teen Self Defense/ This class will help build self-esteem and elevate confidence. You will learn avoidance and escape techniques. It will also show you how to use proper striking and kicking techniques. You will perform practice drills and exercises. Pilates/This class is a non-impact workout that improves core/abdominal strength, flexibility, posture and balance, resulting in a slimmer, leaner body. This class is suitable for beginner to advanced exercisers, as all moves can be modified. Please bring mat or large towel. Yoga Gentle/This class offers the basics of yoga practice, will include the principals of proper alignment, proper breathing techniques, quieting the mind and will help to restore the sense and ease of balance in your life. This class is suitable for beginners and all levels. Supplies needed: yoga mat and towel. Wear comfortable clothing. Yoga Chair / Suitable for all ages, fitness levels and physical conditions and especially for people with physical limitations. Poses are done seated on a chair. The chair may be used for support during standing poses and balancing poses. Supplies needed: Towel Zumba/ Zumba is a dance/fitness exercise program that motivates participants by incorporating a partylike atmosphere. Zumba instructors guide their students to follow a combination of dance steps such as Salsa, Meringue and Reggae ton. Zumba also uses fitness exercises such as squats, knee lifts and bicep curls. Zumba uses Latin music, upbeat music from calypso to swing. Kickboxing/this class will offer a full body workout. Students will learn how to punch and kick through a fun and challenging cardiovascular workout. It has great benefits including increases cardiovascular health, strengthens muscles, increases coordination and burns up to 700 calories an hour. LANGUAGE Spanish Conversational/ This course in intended for people with previous knowledge of Spanish. Students review, strengthen and expand basic structures. They also increase speaking and writing skills, develop an active vocabulary and improve their pronunciation. This course focuses on conversational Spanish and covers the grammar needed to speak correctly. Adults only. Spanish Beginners/ This introductory course is intended for people with no previous or little knowledge of Spanish. It provides the students with basic skills to communicate in the target language. The course emphasizes oral communication in a variety of topics at a basic level. It focuses on conversational Spanish and covers only that grammar absolutely necessary for speaking. Adults only. Beginning Italian/ This course is intended for people with no previous or little knowledge of Italian. It introduces the fundamental elements of the Italian language. Emphasis is on the development of basic listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. The course provides the tools to communicate clear messages in standard language on familiar topics of everyday life. Students will learn to , greet others and say good-bye, ask someone’s name and how he/she feels, spell words and say numbers, give personal information, talk about likes and dislikes, tell time, talk about leisure activities, make plans to do something, express wants and needs and specify locations. MUSIC Piano Children/This class is designed for children 7 – 12, with little to no piano experience. We will cover basic introduction to the piano/keyboard, with emphasis on learning note reading, chords, scales, time, key signatures, rhythm and more. Piano Adults/This class is designed for ages 13 and up with little to no piano playing experience.
