Learning Activity 1a: Lab Safety Activity – Creative Safety Message
Unit E: Matter and its Interactions
Learning Target:
1a)
I can describe, evaluate, and implement safe lab procedures, including the proper use of safety
equipment and emergency procedures. (DOK 1-2)
Creative Lab Safety Message
Your task is to create a lab safety message using a poster or cartoon that illustrates one or
more science lab safety rules.
1. Your table team will be assigned a series of rules by your teacher.
2. As a team you are responsible for producing one poster or cartoon for each person at
your table. The team is responsible for making sure each member has a creative idea
for their particular message. Brainstorm ideas and record these in your science
notebook. Individually, you will take responsibility for producing one poster or
cartoon. (Ex: a group of 3 students will turn in 3 different projects)
3. Make note of which rule you are responsible for on the back of your project.
To earn maximum points, your poster or cartoon needs to:
 convey an accurate lab safety message in a memorable manner (Keep it clean and
legal!)
 be creative (use a clever play on words, dynamic graphics, etc.)
 be visually appealing
 contain identification on the BACK - your name, date, class period, and the rule #(s)
that you are addressing
 Staple this rubric to the back of your project.
You will present these in class on the due date.
