The students purchased a wide range of fresh fruit and vegetables and created their own healthy lunch with the produce the following day at school. The Year 5/6 students are once again to be commended for their outstanding attitudes and behaviour displayed on the excursion. Even the tour organisers commented on what a lovely group they were! We have included some of the student’s excellent recount writing of their day. The hot jam donuts had many mentions! Well done Year 5/6! All items left in lockers will be removed and thrown away. The Mouth-watering Donuts As I start to approach the shiny, bright donut van, I could smell the hot, mouth-watering jam donuts waiting for me. I could feel my taste buds tingling inside my mouth, waiting for the delicious and sweet donut to be devoured by me. I could see the golden, crunchy dough filled with sweet, fruity jam which is coated with sugar. All I could hear were people eating and having fun tasting the delicious donuts. When it was time to go, I could smell the aroma fill the air, attracting more people to eat and come to the donut van. I continue to search and search for the donut van, until it is no longer in my sight. The donut van waits until its next victim arrives. By Kaylani-5/6 C Jam Donuts As we walk towards the end of the fruit shed I begin to smell the hot donuts. It was an extraordinary smell, MUCH, MUCH better than the fish we smelt earlier. I felt like dancing over to the heavenly van and just stuffing donuts into my mouth, but I managed to stay away. I look over to the van and see a lady juggling dough. It was very fascinating to see how they were made. We stroll away and leave the white van. By Jordan-5/6 A The Queen Victoria Market On the 27th of November all the grade 5/6’s went to the Queen Victoria Market. I felt really scared but at the same time I felt happy. I had never been there before. I heard a lot of people that work in the meat section yelling out their prices. Eg: leg of beef at half price $20. I smelt a lot of nice delicious hot jam donuts coming from the white van. I could taste the hot jam running down my face as I shoved the donut in my mouth. I could see a lot of people shopping for food or just having a look around. I also saw a cow’s tongue, liver, brains, octopus and a lot more. The fruit and veggies were all fresh and had a nice colour. By Alice-5/6 C The Market I could smell the fresh fish. There was a putrid smell when we waited for entry. When we arrived my heart was beating so fast I thought I was going to pop like a pimple. The doors slammed open and crowds swarmed through, shop to shop. We started to become centre of attention. It’s like people had never seen children. It wasn’t all that bad, we got discounts and low prices for our purchases. By Jessica-5/6 A such talented people. They made colourful bracelets, clay necklaces and glass paintings that lightened up my day! I could taste the extremely hot jam donuts that were so delicious, in fact I had to go back to get more. I even bought some for my family. When mum took one bite she said it brought back memories from her childhood. I could smell the meat from the deli. It smelt and looked disgusting! By Hallie-5/6 A Victoria Market On the 27th of November 2014 we went on an excursion. I was so nervous that I couldn’t talk. When we were on our way I could hear the train’s horn. I felt something tickling inside of me. I was anxious! I could feel the floor shaking as we travelled on the train. I could smell something I had never smelt before. It smelt like smoke. I was frightened, so I stuck with the teachers. When we were about to get on our second train I could feel the cold breeze going into my face, it was like smelling fresh air. When we got to the market I could smell the disgusting and unpleasant fish smells going up my nose. I hear everybody saying, ‘OOOOO disgusting,’ blocking their nose at the same time. By Noor-5/6C Excursion I can hear people yelling and talking. I can see lots of fruit and meat. I can taste the fruit juice, it tastes like cloud fruit. I can touch the fruit, it feels like fresh fruit. I can smell some fruit, it smells like jam. By Thar Htwe Lay The Market As I was walking I could smell the sensational smell of hot crispy jam donuts. I reached out to grab one, finally remembering to pay. They felt warm and crispy. I took a chunk out of it and the sugar landed all over me. I could hear people munching away at the delight of the donut. By Loretta-5/6 A ENROLMENTS 2015: Victoria Market At Victoria Market I could hear the extremely hard workers calling out cheap prices for people to come and buy their food. I could hear a thousand footsteps all around me everywhere. I could hear my team mates helping each other out. COMMUNITY NEWS: I could feel the nice and ripened fruit. I could feel the smooth little glass animals that the workers were selling. I saw all this magnificent artwork around me, Prep - 4 NEWS: We are finalising classes and teaching staff for 2015 in the next few weeks. If you know of any Preps that may still need to enrol or if you intend to be at another school in 2015 could you let our office know as soon as possible please. As 2014 rolls to an end we have many reasons to celebrate and reflect on a wonderful year. Teachers have enjoyed working with your children and together we have achieved great results. As years end, there are celebrations especially for our Grade 4’s as they transition to Grade 5 and a welcoming of our new preps and families. There is sometimes the need to say goodbye to one of our teachers as they further their careers in new schools. Mrs Bethke has gained a position at Heathdale College, we will miss her bubbly personality and professionalism, however, I am sure her new classes will love her as much as her classes at Laverton. We welcome to our Community two new teachers in 2015. Ms Leigh will be teaching Preps and Ms Music will be teaching the Prep/One class. Ms Leigh has done extensive work with our school this year. She has taught in all classes and met our children. She is very excited about working with our Preps in 2015 and is already working with our staff to create innovative programs. Ms Music has visited the school to also meet the children she will teach and the staff. Discussions with Ms Music about programs and strategies she will be using are inspiring and exciting. Our Prep and one classes next year will no doubt showcase the wonderful programs designed and supported with Miss Garro in the Grade one. We also welcome Ms Aruliah who has previously taught in the 5 - 8 Learning Community. Ms Aruliah has had a year to travel and will come to us with many exciting stories and experiences. She will teach the Grade 2/3 with Mrs Pocervina. Together they will have the chance to expand the students’ joy of learning in these crucial years. Our Grade 4 classes will be taught by three experienced teachers, Mr Gauci, Mr Renton and Mrs James. They will all be able to work with their passions and interests to create an exciting curriculum for the Grade 4’s and extend their experiences. Next year ICT, computers and technology, will have a wider focus and Mr Gauci will help teachers to further embed this into their daily practices. We will have Mrs Moran working with the Arts, giving students exciting experiences with Music, Drama, Art and Textlies. She will be supported in a few lessons with Ms Hadzikadic. We will miss Ms Hadzikadic as she moves to work with the older children in the school. Mr Nastic will continue to work with the PE across the Prep - 6 and hopefully we will have some major successes again like this year, when two of his students went to the National Competition for Athletics. I would like to thank all the parents and Community members who have supported and inspired us this year. It has been an exciting year with many conversations and suggestions that have come to us via your contributions. I hope your support and partnership continues and expands next year. I wish you all a very Merry and Safe Festive Season, Jan Scott Prep - 4 Community Principal.
