Parent-School Learning Compact, 2014-2015 Dallas Independent School District Each school receiving funds under Title I, Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) must develop a written school-parent compact jointly with parents for all children participating in Title I, Part A activities, services, and programs. That compact is part of the school’s written parental involvement policy developed by the school and parents under section 1118(b) of the ESEA. The compact must outline how parents, the entire school staff, and students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means by which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership to help children achieve the State’s high standards. The E. L. DeGolyer Elementary School staff and the parents of the students participating in activities, services, and programs funded by Title I, Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) (participating children), agree that this compact outlines how the parents, the entire school staff, and the students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means by which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership that will help children achieve the State’s high standards. Required School-Parent Compact Provisions School Responsibilities: E. L. DeGolyer will: 1. Provide high-quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment that enables the participating children to meet the District’s student academic achievement standards as follows: After School Tutoring Special Education Services Speech Services Dyslexia Services Gifted and Talented Program 504 Accommodations 2. Hold parent-teacher conferences (at least annually in elementary schools) during which this compact will be discussed as it relates to the individual child’s achievement. Specifically, those conferences will be held: Dallas Independent School scheduled two days to be used to conduct parent and student conferences as needed. DeGolyer Elementary School will conduct an open house in October and January. Teachers and parents may request a conference at any time throughout the school year. Parents can meet with their child’s team by contacting and setting up an appointment with Grade Level Lead Teacher. 3. Provide parents with frequent reports on their children’s progress. Specifically, the school will provide reports as follows: Progress Reports Report Cards Email Agenda Notes Conferences Phone Calls Tuesday Folders Class Dojo 4. Provide parents reasonable access to staff. Provide parents opportunities to volunteer and participate in their child’s class, and to observe classroom activities, as follows: Volunteers are used in many different ways at DeGolyer Elementary School throughout the year. Many classes have activities that the parents are asked to participate in each year as well as whole school activities in the evenings. There are also several other committees throughout the school year that request parent participation, involving parents in the decision-making of the school. Parents may request to make an appointment to observe classroom activities through the school office. Parent Responsibilities Know what my child should learn and know at grade level and how I, as a parent, can help my child learn Explore magnet school options and advanced placement classes with teacher or counselor Communicate regularly with my child’s teacher in order to know how my child is doing Make sure my child attends school every day on time Balance my child’s TV and video game playing time with learning opportunities, such as reading 20 to 30 minutes daily or going to the library Inform teacher if my child is having difficulty with homework or is having difficulty in school Attend parent conferences, PTA meetings, and parent education workshops Provide necessary supplies to help my child be prepared for school and be able to complete assignments Create a home environment that is safe for my child Be an active parent/guardian and volunteer in my child’s class and/or at my child’s school Know my child’s friends and parents Monitor my child’s activities on the internet and social media Student Responsibilities Adhere to the Student Core Beliefs o My future success depends on working hard today. o I have high expectations for myself, my classmates, and my school. o I aim for excellence even when it’s difficult.
