- Education, research and achievements
Dr. He is currently a Professor of Epidemiology and Co-Dean at the School of Public Health,
Fudan University in Shanghai, China. He has been working on epidemiology of infectious diseases
particularly HIV/AIDS and STDs for more than two decades. Dr. He is also the Director of AIDS
Research Center in the school. Dr. He received Bachelor of Medicine in 1991 and Master of
Science in Epidemiology in 1994 in Shanghai Medical University (merged with Fudan University in
2000), China, and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Epidemiology in 2003 at the University of
California, Los Angeles (UCLA) where he was awarded with the most prestigious award (the L. S.
Goerke Award) of UCLA School of Public Health and the lifetime membership of the US National
Public Health Society (The Delta Omega, IOTA Chapter).
Dr. He has served as a key consultant to China Ministry of Health or currently the National
Committee of Health and Family Planning on AIDS and STD Control and Prevention since 2004
and has been actively involved in national campaigns on HIV/AIDS control over the past ten years.
Dr. He was honored to meet and discuss with previous China Premier Wen Jiabao and the current
Premier Li Keqiang about HIV/AIDS control on Dec.1st, 2009. He is a Standing Fellow of the
National Academic Committee of China State Council and a Standing Fellow of Public Health
Session of the Chinese Medical Association.
- Areas of interests
Dr. He has authored or co-authored over 200 peer-reviewed published articles with the
majority on risk behaviors and molecular epidemiology of HIV/AIDS, HIV-related co-infections and
malignancies. Dr. He recently examines risk behaviors particularly new type drug use and
homosexual activities, implementation and effectiveness of early ART as both treatment and
prevention measures, association and mechanisms of HIV and aging, molecularly epidemiology of
co-infections such as EBV, HBV, HCV, HPV, KSHV, as well as non-AIDS defining outcomes of HIV
infection in the real China settings.
