Developed an in-depth Professional Development course, entitled “Hazard Communication for
the European Union.” This course covers the various European Directives on hazard
communication requirements, and teaches the difference between substances and preparations
and how to classify each, including the “conventional method.” This course has been presented at
clients’ facilities as in-house training.
Created a two-day, hands-on workshop on MSDS authoring and precautionary labeling
preparation to comply with US and Canadian requirements, which was used to train clients’
employees. Students are first taught the classification criteria and the hazard communication
requirements for both countries. Using practical examples, the students classify products,
develop precautionary labels, and prepare Material Safety Data Sheets.
Designed and conducted a two-day introductory course on hazard communication. Topical areas
included: Labeling under OSHA, CPSC, TSCA, RCRA regulations, Canadian regulations,
European Directives, and state Right-to-Know laws; Material Safety Data Sheets requirements in
the US, Canada, and Europe; U.S. Department of Transportation regulations; and, other labeling
systems (HMIS and NFPA).
