WHAT IS TRUTH? THE PERENNIAL QUESTION Three Saturday mornings March 28, April 25, May 23 9:30 am to 1:30 pm Cost: $35 includes lunch ($25 without) What is Truth? Pilate’s question to an accused Jesus echoes through the centuries. Especially in today’s pluralistic world, many “truths” clamour for our attention and allegiance. How do we sift and sort these sometimes competing voices and claims? Is truth an objective set of propositions, a rule to live by, or a key into the way we live in relationship? How are truth, God, love and mercy connected in Jesus? What does Jesus mean when he claims to be the Truth, the Way and the Life? How are we to relate to other spiritual paths? We will explore several layers of meaning contained in the perennial question, examine our post-modern cultural context that affects how we understand truth, develop criteria for assessing the “truth” about truth, and maybe learn to appropriate for ourselves some of the ways Jesus embodies truth. “And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8.32 “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14.6 Marie-Louise Ternier-Gommers has been married to Jim for 35 years.
