Dear colleague,
It is our pleasure to invite you and your qualified students to participate in the PMEA
District 11 Instrumental Auditions to be held at Central Bucks HS East on December 13,
2014. Please read the following information carefully and contact me if there are any
questions or concerns.
Each school may send a full contingent of students, grades 10-12, and may also include
grade 9 string players. These grade 9 string players are not eligible for Region/State or
All-State consideration. All students must be pre-registered for the event or they are
ineligible to audition. On-site registration is not permitted. Students planning to
audition for District Band or Orchestra should be available to participate in the festival.
District Orchestra is scheduled for January 13-15, and District Band is scheduled for
January 27-29 (W-F). The deadline for registration is Tuesday, November 24. All
payments must be received prior to Wednesday, December 9.
The registration process will take place online. Please know that PMEA District 11
President, Victor Holladay, will oversee the online registration process. The online
process is intended to significantly limit the potential for human error, and we appreciate
your attention to accuracy and deadlines when completing the registration process. Only
directors are allowed to register their students, and by registering the students, the
directors acknowledge that they are qualified to audition at the District level.
To register, please visit the district 11 website (pmead11.net), then click on the “PMEA
D11 Members Only” section and follow all of the directions carefully. The password for
the members only section is “pmead11members.” In schools where multiple directors
teach, please be certain to register the students only once. However, both directors
should register separately and plan to assist with the auditions. The registration fee for
each student is $5. An invoice will be available with the confirmation page that follows
the registration page. Please send a check payable to Central Bucks HS East Band and
include a copy of the invoice to ensure accurate accounting. Payments and
registration confirmation should be sent to:

The most recent literature and scale/rudiment requirements are posted at the PMEA
District 11 Website: www.pmead11.net. All auditioning students are required to have an
original copy of the required solo. Photocopies will not be allowed. Please review the
scale/rudiment requirements with your students prior to the auditions. Each student
should know the required ranges, tempos, and articulations prior to the audition. Also,
the scoring breakdown of the audition is listed on the same pages.
All directors are kindly reminded that they are required to participate in the adjudication
process. This may include responsibilities as a judge, sergeant-at-arms, or tabulator.
Judges must remain at the auditions until their instrument is completely finished,
including solos, sight-reading, and scales. Although every effort will be made to assign
judges to assess their primary instruments, some flexibility is necessary to cover the full
instrumentation of the ensembles. All directors are also considered to be the legal
representatives of their school and must be available in case of an emergency as long
as any of their students are present at the auditions.
On the day of auditions, students should register between 8:00 and 8:45 AM in the
gymnasium. Directors should also register between 8:00 and 8:30 in the library.
Directors will meet at 8:30 AM to conduct a District 11 business meeting and finalize
adjudication specifics. Breakfast concessions and other snacks will be available for the
students throughout the day. Breakfast for the directors will be provided by Peak
Performance Tours and lunch will be provided by Zeswitz. Although every effort will be
made to keep the audition process moving as quickly as possible, students should not
expect to be finished before 2:00 PM. This information will be reiterated in another
mailing prior to the auditions.
Questions regarding the online registration or literature specifics should be addressed to
Victor Holladay, at vholladay@pgsd.org. Any questions regarding the payment of
registration fees or event specifics should be sent to Jason Morehouse at
jmorehouse@cbsd.org.
Sincerely,
Jason L. Morehouse
