Clearwater Clear Lake Food Shelf Food Shelf Coordinator Mission Clearwater Clear Lake Food Shelf mission is to serve friends and neighbors, providing emergency food and support information History Clearwater Clear Lake Food Shelf (CCLFS) was established over 20 years ago to organize hunger-relief efforts in the Clearwater Clear Lake areas. Members of local religious and civic groups acknowledged the growing number of local food insecurities. They determined a nonprofit was needed to strategically gather food and monetary donations, and distribute the food in an organized and respectful manner. The Food Shelf obtained a 501(c)3 status in 2009. Position Purpose The Food Shelf coordinator is responsible for the day to day operation of the food shelf. This includes the distribution of food, purchasing of food through our vendors as needed, promoting the food shelf, recruiting volunteers, maintaining necessary records, maintain the facility and managing the various distribution of holiday baskets. The coordinator will be required to present a professional image of the Clearwater Clear Lake Food Shelf. Discretion is a key component to this job. Required knowledge & Experience The coordinator must have knowledge of food handling regulations and requirements. The position requires good interpersonal and strong communication skills. Must have the ability to create and support a positive volunteer team environment, including recruiting, training and coordinating volunteers. Must have strong organization and administration skills, including planning, guiding, implementing and delegating projects and responsibilities. Position requires knowledge of Microsoft office software. Decision Making The coordinator must be self- motivated, able to work independently or with minimal direction on a day to day basis. The coordinator will seek direction and guidance from the Board of Directors on very specific issues. The coordinator will establish policy, and implements policies, practices and procedures. Internal and External contacts The coordinator will have frequent contact with volunteers to provide support, answer questions, and provide direction as needed. There will also be frequent contact with food shelf clients. Will have quarterly contact with the Board of Directors to review food shelf activity and attend board meetings. Other contacts will include other food shelves, area food shelf meetings, Second Harvest Heartland, local churches and community /civic organizations that support the food shelf, and individual donors. In all contacts, the coordinator will be required to present a professional image of the food shelf. Growth of the Food Shelf The board has recently completed strategic planning and this positions, as well as future growth of programs and outreach in the community, are priorities to be accomplished in 2015. Reports to Board of Directors Wage: $15 – $18.50 / hour Hours: 30/weekly Established Goals of the Food Shelf Provide food to the people within our service area Provide food support information regarding other services for which they may qualify Preserve the dignity of all people, treating all people with respect serve our supporters by efficiently collecting, wisely purchasing and compassionately distribution food Develop positive interactions between customers and volunteers Follow a model for continuous improvement. Physical demands Should have the ability to lift a minimum of 15 - 25 pounds Major Responsibilities 1. Day to Day operations (35%) a. Develop and implement procedure and client eligibility criteria b. Allocate food as directed by resources c. Maintain confidentiality of all records d. Maintain consistent hours of operation e. Manage the distribution of Holiday baskets 2. Food Purchase and Rescue (15%) a. Pursue all reasonable opportunities for food through various partners; TEFAP, Second Harvest Heartland and Hunger Solutions b. Purchase food as necessary with good quality & low cost as an objective c. Manage the variable budget for food purchases d. Rescue partners – Target in Monticello, Coborns grocery in Clearwater and Great Harvest Bakery – E. St Germain, St. Cloud 3. Recruit, train and coordinate volunteers to (10%) a. Receive and sort donations b. Assist clients when shopping @ the food shelf c. Serve as a liaison for communication and promotion in local churches and organizations d. Help with delivery orders and rescue pick up e. Maintain facilities and cleanliness of the food shelf 4. Networking (5%) a. Inform the public about the food shelf, hours and need b. Obtain donations for food shelf operations 5. Fund Raising (25)% a. Grant applications – obtaining funds through grants and corporate donations b. Local businesses c. Civic organizations d. March MN Food Share Campaign 6. Maintain a clean and attractive facility (5%) a. work with the city to make sure building is functioning b. maintain food shelf supplies for day to day operations 7.
